New Faces were a Britpop-influenced band, formed in Port Townsend, Washington in 2006 as Captain Incognito.[ citation needed ] The band was received well, and won Seattle's local under-21 music competition, Sound Off!. [1] The band is also the youngest band to be signed by Seattle-based Loveless Records. [2] [3] The band released two singles off their first album, Two Years, on July 22, 2008, before releasing the full album on August 26 of the same year. [2]
Britpop was a UK-based music and culture movement in the mid-1990s which emphasised "Britishness", and produced brighter, catchier alternative rock, partly in reaction to the popularity of the darker lyrical themes of the US-led grunge music, an alternative rock genre, and to the UK's own shoegazing music scene. The most successful bands linked with the movement are Blur, Oasis, Suede and Pulp; those groups would come to be known as its "big four". The timespan of Britpop is generally considered to be 1993–1997, with 1994–1995, and a chart battle between Blur and Oasis dubbed "The Battle of Britpop", being the epicentre of activity. While music was the main focus, fashion, art, and politics also got involved, with artists such as Damien Hirst being involved in creating videos for Blur, and being labelled as Britart or Britpop artists, and Tony Blair and New Labour aligning themselves with the movement.
Port Townsend is a city on the Quimper Peninsula in Jefferson County, Washington, United States. The population was 9,113 at the 2010 United States Census and an estimated 9,551 in 2017. It is the county seat and only incorporated city of Jefferson County. In addition to its natural scenery at the northeast tip of the Olympic Peninsula, the city is known for the many Victorian buildings remaining from its late 19th-century heyday, numerous annual cultural events, and as a maritime center for independent boatbuilders and related industries and crafts. The Port Townsend Historic District is a U.S. National Historic Landmark District. It is also significantly drier than the surrounding region due to being in the Rainshadow of the Olympic Mountains, receiving only 19" of rain per year.
The band has played with acts such as Blue Scholars and Schoolyard Heroes, and has been aired on Seattle music station KEXP-FM [4] and on KNDD (locally known as 107.7 The End). [5]

Its broadcasting license is owned by Friends of KEXP, an independent 501(c)(3) organization. There are weekly programs dedicated to other musical genres, including rockabilly, blues, world music, hip hop, electronica, punk, and alternative country. Live, in-studio performances by artists are also regularly scheduled.
The band's music has appeared on television, with appearances on NBC, including Mercy and The Philanthropist. More recently, the band's music has been licensed for use in a television commercial, airing in Mexico, for Converse (shoe company).
