Dragons are one of the four professional rugby union regional teams in Wales. They are owned by the Welsh Rugby Union and play their home games at Rodney Parade, Newport and at other grounds around the region. They play in the United Rugby Championship and the European Rugby Champions Cup/European Rugby Challenge Cup. The region they represent covers an area of southeast Wales including Blaenau Gwent, Caerphilly, Monmouthshire, Newport and Torfaen with a total population approaching 600,000 and they are affiliated with a number of semi-professional and amateur clubs throughout the area, including Pontypool RFC, Caerphilly RFC, Cross Keys RFC, Ebbw Vale RFC and Newport RFC.

Dean Ryan is an English rugby union coach and former player. A former corporal in the Corp of Royal Engineers, he played for England as a Number 8. The 2008–09 Celtic League was the eighth Celtic League season and the third with Magners as title sponsor. The season began in September 2008 and ended in May 2009. Ten teams played each other on a home-and-away basis, with teams earning four points for a win, and a bonus point for scoring four or more tries in a match. Losing teams also earned a bonus point if they lost by seven points or less.

Hallam Benjamen Amos is a former Welsh rugby union player who played for Cardiff Rugby and Newport Gwent Dragons. He mostly played as a wing, but he was also capable of playing at fullback and as a centre. Born in Stockport, England, he came through the Newport Gwent Dragons academy and made his professional debut for the region in October 2011 at the age of 17 years and 28 days, briefly making him the youngest player to appear for one of the four Welsh regional sides. After eight years with the Dragons, during which time he made 115 appearances, he moved to the Cardiff Blues in 2019.
Ian Nimmo is a Scottish rugby union player who plays as a lock forward. Nimmo moved to Perthshire, Scotland at the age of 14. He has been capped by Scotland at Under 19 and Under 20 levels and was included in the Scotland under 20 squad for the 2005 and 2009 Junior World Cups.
Judgement Day is an annual Welsh Rugby Union event that takes place at Millennium Stadium in Cardiff and is part of the Pro14 competition. The four regions – Cardiff Blues, Dragons, Ospreys and Scarlets – join with the Welsh Rugby Union in organising a double-header fixture at the Millennium Stadium. The annual derby day clash will be repeated for the foreseeable future with the two east Wales regions taking on the two west Wales regions. In 2020, the two matches were held on consecutive days at Rodney Parade due to the COVID-19 pandemic causing a change to the format of the 2019–20 season and the Millennium Stadium being unavailable due to it being used as the Dragon's Heart Hospital.
Megan York is a Welsh rugby union player who plays prop for Ynysddu RFC and the Wales women's national rugby union team. She won her first international cap against Scotland in the 2012 Women's Six Nations Championship, and her first try was against England in 2013.
