The Nikaj are directly related to the Krasniqi tribe. Today, the Nikaj are usually grouped along with the Mërturi tribe as Nikaj-Mërturi.

The Nikaj-Mërtur region is a regional nature park in northern Albania, strategically inside the southeastern Albanian Alps in Tropojë. It lies within the area of the historical Nikaj and Mërturi tribes. The park is an area of alpine landscapes, deep valleys, vertical cliffs, dense coniferous and deciduous forests, small lakes and rivers. The International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) has listed the park as Category IV. Like most of the Albanian Alps, it is listed as an important Plant Area, because it supports significant plant species.

Brisë is a village in the administrative unit of Lekbibaj in Kukës County, Albania. It is situated in the ethnographic region known as the Highlands of Gjakova. Brisë is a settlement within Nikaj tribal territory, and it is therefore inhabited by members of the Nikaj tribe.

After 3 Days of fighting the Albanian insurgents were defeated and retreated to the Drenica region.

The Battle of Agri Pass was a battle between Albanian rebels and Ottoman forces during the Revolt of 1910. The clash represented a military offensive launched by Shevket Turgut Pasha against Albanian rebels that were blocking the Agri Pass in the Bajrak of Nikaj-Mërtur. The Ottomans were defeated.

The Mërturi tribe is a traditional fis in the sense of being a community that claims paternal descent from one common ancestor, consisting of a single bajrak during the time of the Ottoman Empire. The Mërturi are directly related to the Berisha tribe. Today, the Mërturi are usually grouped along with the Nikaj tribe as Nikaj-Mërturi.
