The first season received generally positive reviews from critics, holding a 74% fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes. [4] Robert Bianco of USA Today wrote "Gross, engrossing and ultimately and utterly fearless, Nip/Tuck is a show about the price we pay to keep up appearances – and about the effort a show has to go to these days to break through TV's clutter." [5] Brian Lowry of the Los Angeles Times said "Both troubling and welcome ... Nip/Tuck both wallows in these shallow and twisted lives, while portraying them with warts and then some." [6] McMahon and Walsh received praise for their performances, with Terry Kelleher of People Magazine stating "McMahon is perfect as a satyr with a seductive smile ... Walsh fares well in the difficult role of a man who swings back and forth between self-righteousness and complete moral confusion." [7] Some criticism was aimed at the shows use of GUI, with David Bianculli of the New York Daily News saying "It's more artifice than art, and in everything from the performances to the dramatic contrivances, you can see the strain. You watch, and sometimes you smile or squirm – but you don't believe." [8] Linda Stasi of the New York Post said "What's good here is the acting, and some of the story lines. But they are overshadowed by over-the-top gory surgeries and preposterous situations." [9]
Nip/Tuck is an American medical drama television series created by Ryan Murphy that aired on FX in the United States from July 22, 2003, to March 3, 2010. The series, which also incorporates elements of crime drama, black comedy, family drama, satire, and psychological thriller, focuses on "McNamara/Troy", a cutting-edge, controversial plastic surgery center, and follows the personal and professional lives of its founders Dr. Sean McNamara and Dr. Christian Troy. Each episode features graphic, partial depictions of the plastic surgeries on one or more patients, as well as developments in the doctors' personal lives. Focus is also given to McNamara/Troy's anesthesiologist Dr. Liz Cruz, Christian's many sexual partners, and Sean's family. With the exception of the pilot, each episode of the series is named after one of the patients scheduled to receive plastic surgery.
Julian Dana William McMahon is an Australian actor and former model. He is the only son of former Prime Minister of Australia, Sir William McMahon. He is best known for his roles as Detective John Grant in Profiler, Cole Turner in Charmed, Christian Troy in Nip/Tuck, Doctor Doom in the Fantastic Four duology, Jonah in Runaways, and Jess LaCroix in CBS crime drama FBI: Most Wanted.
Dylan Walsh is an American actor. He is best known for his role as Dr. Sean McNamara in the FX television series Nip/Tuck, Al Burns in Unforgettable and Sam Lane in Superman & Lois.
Leslie Erin Grossman is an American actress. She is known for her role as Lauren on The WB sitcom What I Like About You, and for her frequent collaborations with Ryan Murphy, appearing as Mary Cherry on The WB's comedy-drama series Popular (1999–2001), and as various characters on the FX anthology series American Horror Story since 2017. Grossman also had a recurring role on the television series 10 Things I Hate About You, a reboot of the original cult classic movie of the same name.
