Nordea Bank Danmark A/S is a bank in Denmark. It is part of Nordea a major financial group in the Nordic countries. Nordea is the result of a merger in 1997 between the Danish bank Unibank, which itself was an amalgamation of older Danish banks, most notable Sparekassen SDS, and banks from other Nordic countries. The Heering House is a Neoclassical house overlooking Christianshavn Canal in the Christianshavn neighbourhood of Copenhagen, Denmark. It takes its name from Peter Frederik Suhm Heering (1792-1875) who owned it from 1838 until his death in 1875 and it continued to serve as headquarters for his company, Peter Heering, until 1977. PK Banken or Post & Kreditbanken, "the Post and Credit Bank", was a Swedish bank formed through the merger of Kreditbanken and the nationally owned Postbanken in 1974. After the purchase of several regional banks, which included "Nordbanken", the entire bank took on that name. Nordbanken merged with the Finnish bank Merita in 1998 to form Merita-Nordbanken. Merita-Nordbanken merged in 2000 with the Danish Unibank to become Nordic Baltic Holding before acquiring the Norwegian Kreditkassen, and subsequently adopting the new Nordea brand in 2001.
