Northplatte Records is an American independent record label founded by singer-songwriter Joshua James and McKay Stevens. [1]

An independent record label is a record label that operates without the funding of major record labels. Many artists begin their careers on independent labels.

Fork Fest

In October 2010, Northplatte Records sponsored Fork Fest, a music festival featuring 33 artists on 3 stages. Attendance was approximately 5,000. The one-day festival was advertised on radio and via virtually all local print media. Artists included all Northplatte artists as well as artists signed to Kilby Records, Slowtrain Records, Columbia Records, Red Owl Records (Fictionist), Sea Sick Records, My Forlorn Wallet Records, Thousand Leaves Records, Call Me Judy Records, Groundloop Records, R Legacy Entertainment, Sonata Cantata Records, and widely known unsigned acts including Imagine Dragons and Location Location.

Columbia Records is an American record label owned by Sony Music Entertainment, a subsidiary of Sony Corporation of America, the North American division of Japanese conglomerate Sony. It was founded in 1887, evolving from the American Graphophone Company, the successor to the Volta Graphophone Company. Fictionist is an American alternative rock band from Provo, Utah, United States, with origins in Salt Lake City and Sacramento. The band consists of Stuart Maxfield, Robbie Connolly, Brandon Kitterman, and Aaron Anderson (drums). They have toured nationally and have opened for acts including Imagine Dragons, Vampire Weekend, Neon Trees, Young the Giant, and Shiny Toy Guns.

Imagine Dragons is an American rock band from Las Vegas, Nevada, consisting of lead vocalist Dan Reynolds, lead guitarist Wayne Sermon, bassist Ben McKee, and drummer Daniel Platzman. The band first gained exposure with the release of their single "It's Time", followed by their award-winning debut studio album Night Visions (2012), which resulted in the chart-topping singles "Radioactive" and "Demons". In addition, he currently plays guitar in Oxley's Midnight Runners, Stomper 98, and The Last Resort. He was also briefly a member of the UK Subs in 1991. He joined Rancid in 1993 after the band was searching for a second guitar player and was present on their second album Let's Go. He has produced albums for bands such as Dropkick Murphys, Agnostic Front, The Business, Swingin Utters, Marky Ramone and the Intruders, Anti-Heros, Pressure Point, The Forgotten among others. He recently mixed GBH's 2010 album entitled Perfume and Piss, as well as Cock Sparrer's 2007 album "Here We Stand" both alongside Michael Rosen.

The Dirtbombs are an American garage rock band based in Detroit, Michigan, notable for blending diverse influences such as punk rock and soul while featuring a dual bass guitar, dual drum and guitar lineup. The Dirtbombs were formed by Mick Collins as a side project and started recording songs by 1995.

Versus is an American indie rock band formed in 1990 by Richard Baluyut, Fontaine Toups, and Edward Baluyut in New York City. Richard and Fontaine were to remain the two core members throughout the band's history. The band was noted for their marriage of indie pop songwriting and vocal harmonies to the "loud-soft" dynamics of grunge and alternative rock. They were also noted for their proficient and disciplined musicianship and for their credo of "meat, sports, and rock", none of which had much currency in the early 1990s American indie scene. Fleshies have also released albums on Recess Records, Adeline Records, Life is Abuse Records, Thrillhouse Records and S.P.A.M. STNNNG was an American noise rock band from Minneapolis, Minnesota. Formed in 2003, they played over 400 live shows in the United States, England, France, and Belgium. STNNNG released four full-length albums on the Twin Cities-based Modern Radio record label before splitting up in 2017.

Charlie Parr is an American country blues musician. Born in Austin, Minnesota, he spent part of his childhood in Hollandale before starting his music career in Duluth. His influences include Charlie Patton, Bukka White, Reverend Gary Davis, Dave Van Ronk, and Mississippi John Hurt. He plays a Mule resonator, National resonator guitar, a fretless open-back banjo, and a twelve-string guitar, often in the Piedmont blues style. He is married to Emily Parr, who occasionally adds vocals to his music. He has two children.

Caldo Verde Records is a San Francisco-based indie rock and folk record label founded by Red House Painters and Sun Kil Moon frontman Mark Kozelek in 2005. The label primarily features releases by Kozelek and Sun Kil Moon, but has also released albums by Jesu, Corrina Repp, Retribution Gospel Choir, and Kath Bloom. Photographer Nyree Watts is the commissioned artist for Caldo Verde, as almost all of the releases on the label feature her photography.

Lovepump United is an independent record label founded in 2004 by Vassar College students Jake Friedman and Mookie Singerman in Poughkeepsie, New York. The label is based in New York City. Friedman and Singerman were the only members of a duo Glitter Pals whose EP was Lovepump's first release; the band has disbanded. Singerman is also the vocalist for Philadelphia-based "cybergrind" band Genghis Tron whose Cloak of Love EP was the second Lovepump release. Lovepump first gained attention in indie music circles by releasing the debut album by the much buzzed about Montreal based noise rock band AIDS Wolf in January 2006.

Manimal Vinyl is a Calabasas based record label founded in 2006 by musician and fashion editor Paul Beahan. They were originally known as a psychedelic folk label that makes semi-annual tribute records for worldwide charities, having eventually switched to dance music and progressive underground. They are the label who has release debut records from act ranging from Warpaint to Bat for Lashes and exclusive singles from Moby, Duran Duran, Carla Bruni, Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros. In 2008, they founded the annual Manimal Festival in Pioneertown, California which ran from 2008-2010. The festival has featured line-ups with Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros, Warpaint, Ariel Pink and papercranes. In 2015, Manimal signed on with legendary avant-garde artist Yoko Ono to release the highly anticipated sequel to 2007's Yes, I'm A Witch with Yes, I'm A Witch Too which features collaborations and remixes from Death Cab for Cutie, Miike Snow, Penguin Prison, Moby, Peter Bjorn and John, Cibo Matto, and Sparks. In December 2016, operations moved to Calabasas, California. As of 2018, Manimal operates as a distributor and boutique record label. In 2018 the label launched a film company Centaurus A Pictures.

Beep! Beep! Back up the Truck is a Dutch record label based in Utrecht, Netherlands. The label was founded in spring 2008 and is run as an artistes' collective. The label's main focus is on the promotion and distribution of independent artistes. Beep! Beep! uses the Creative Commons licence and all of its releases can be fully streamed and downloaded for free. The label is the first in Holland to use a free on-line catalogue. The label also distributes physical albums.

Paranoid Visions band that plays punk rock

Paranoid Visions are a punk band from Dublin, Ireland who formed in 1982. They broke up in 1992, had reunion shows and eventually decided to reunite. The band ran their own label, F.O.A.D., during the 80s and 90s. The label was based in Dublin and run by guitarist, P.A. as is the bulk of their current administration to date. In 1987, the band started the FOAD2U2 campaign. These letters could be seen sprayed all over Dublin at the time. Their EP, I Will Wallow is a parody of U2's album, Boy, and their single "I Will Follow". In. The band went on hiatus in the early 1990s reforming for shows in 1996 with the Sex Pistols on the Filthy Lucre Tour and the Damned on their 25th anniversary tour of 2001. In 2005 Toxic Records released the compilation "Outside in" resulting in the band reforming for a few shows in support of the release.The reformation led to a huge creative burst and resulted in the "Missing in Action" ep. The critical and commercial success of the record continued the creative vein and between 2005 and 2017 the band released 5 new albums and 12 singles. The January 2009 release Beware of the God. was voted number 107 in the list of the most important Irish albums in Hot Press magazine, whilst the singles Politician, Treasure on the Wasteland and Outsider Artist all hit the Irish top 10. In 2013 the band formed an unlikely alliance with Crass vocalist Steve Ignorant which started out life as a single track and led on to regular live performances, 2 albums and 2 singles. The band alongside Steve have played some of the biggest alternative festivals in the world including Chicago's Riot Fest, Canada's Amnesia festival and the annual appearance at the UK's Rebellion Festival, at which the band performed a set featuring Crass songs for the first time in 7 years alongside tracks by Flux of Pink Indians, Poison Girls, DIRT and Conflict as well as their own material. The 2016 the album "Now and Then...!" featuring Steve Ignorant entered the Irish charts at number 6..

The Morning After Girls are an Australian neo-psychedelia band. The group was originally formed in Melbourne, Victoria around 2003 by founding members Sacha Lucashenko and Martin B. Sleeman, who relocated the group to New York City in 2008. Its American lineup includes Alexander White, EJ Hagen, and John Brodeur (drums). They have since returned to Australia and are now based in Melbourne to complete their third album in 2017.

Hoarse & Roaring is the debut full-length album by neofolk band Parlor Hawk, released in 2010 on Northplatte Records. The album was produced by Joshua James and featured Neon Trees bassist Branden Campbell on each track as well as Fictionist member Stuart Maxfield on the tracks "14 Years" and "Home". It was mixed by Todd Burke and mastered by Reuben Cohen.
