Bonita is a census-designated place (CDP) in southern San Diego County, California, nestled between the cities of Chula Vista, National City, and San Diego. The population was 12,538 at the 2010 census.

Mary Casillas Salas is an American politician from Chula Vista, California. She is a former California Assembly member who represented the 79th Assembly District from 2006 to 2010. She ran for the California State Senate in 2010 but lost. In 2012 she was elected to the Chula Vista City Council, a position she previously held from 1996 to 2004. She was elected Mayor of the city of Chula Vista in 2014.
Steve Padilla is a public policy, advocacy and communications consultant and a noted California politician. From 1994 to 2002, he served two terms on the city council of Chula Vista, California. He served as Mayor of Chula Vista from 2002 to 2006 and as a member of the California Coastal Commission from 2005 to 2007, and again since 2017. He served as a member of the Board of Port Commissioners of the Unified Port of San Diego, as Board Secretary and Vice Chairman-Elect from 2009 to 2011. In 2016, he was again elected to the Chula Vista City Council.
The 2009 Little League World Series was the 63rd edition of the championship tournament for Little League baseball, held in South Williamsport, Pennsylvania, from August 21 through August 30, 2009. Eight teams from the United States and eight from the rest of the world competed in the tournament. In the championship game, the United States champions, from Chula Vista, California, defeated the international champions from Taoyuan County, Taiwan. This was the first tournament in which a team representing Chinese Taipei reached the championship game since 1996, and the first championship for a team from the state of California since 1993.
Nestor is a residential neighborhood in the southern section of San Diego, and part of the Otay Mesa-Nestor community planning area. The group is a collaborative effort between the city of Chula Vista's environmental divisions and local stakeholders which include businesses and community groups. The CLEAN group's main focuses have been on creating a long-term climate change action plan, achieving a zero waste stream, and increasing public education of the city's environmental programs. With equal input from the city of Chula Vista and community leaders, the group helps to foster an open dialogue with the public and business community on ways they can help create a sustainable Chula Vista for years to come.
The Vogue Theater is a historic movie theater in downtown Chula Vista, California. It was designed by the Architect Frank Hope Jr. in 1943, and opened on January 19, 1945. The theater is a poured in place concrete building and seats 825. Due to its configuration and stage, the theater has been a venue for several Chula Vista and San Diego political debates by the likes of former San Diego City Mayor Roger Hedgecock, and current Chula Vista Mayor Cheryl Cox.

Greg Cox is an American politician and businessman from San Diego, California. He served as a member of the San Diego County Board of Supervisors for District 1 from 1995-2020. He is a member of the Republican party, although he has also been endorsed by prominent local Democratic politicians. He is not eligible to run in the 2020 election due to term limits. He was succeeded by Democrat Nora Vargas.
A statue of Christopher Columbus by Mario Zamora was installed in Chula Vista, California's Discovery Park, in the United States. The statue has been vandalized multiple times. It was removed and placed into storage in June 2020.
