The University of Oulu is one of the largest universities in Finland, located in the city of Oulu. It was founded on July 8, 1958. The university has around 16,000 students and 3,000 staff. The university is often ranked as one of the better universities in Finland and in the top-400 worldwide.
Oulu Music Video Festival is an annual music video festival held in late August in Oulu, Finland. The establishment of the festival in 1994 was initiated by students of the Oulu School of Arts and Crafts. The festival has got a contest for Finnish music videos. The best Finnish music video is awarded with The Golden Pumpeli Award and the most promising young director is awarded with the Teen Pumpeli Award. Music videos are screened at the Cultural Centre Valve.
Mika Ronkainen is a Finnish film director from Oulu, Northern Finland. Ronkainen works with documentaries, fiction, and theatre. In June 2013 American magazine Variety selected Ronkainen as one of the ten up-and-coming European directors to watch.
The Locarno Film Festival is an annual film festival held every August in Locarno, Switzerland. Zlín Film Festival, also known as the International Film Festival for Children and Youth is an annual festival of children's film in Zlín in the Czech Republic. Founded in 1961 in the former Czechoslovakia, the festival gradually gained international attention. The audience consists mainly of children and youth from the Zlín region, but also university students and adult visitors who come to late-night screenings with appropriate dramaturgy, as well as film professionals from around the world.
Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival, or PÖFF, is an annual film festival held since 1997 in Tallinn, the capital city of Estonia. PÖFF is the only festival in Northern Europe or the Baltic region with a FIAPF accreditation for holding an International Competitive Feature Film Program, which places it alongside 14 other non-specialised competitive world festivals including Berlin, Cannes, Venice, Karlovy Vary, Warsaw, and San Sebastian. With over 250 feature-length and over 250 short films and animations from 80 different countries (2018) screened, and an attendance of over 80,000 (2018), PÖFF is the one of the largest film festivals in Northern Europe. The festival, its sub-festivals and the audiovisual industry platform Industry@Tallinn hosted around 1200 film professionals and journalists in 2018.
Pirjo Irene Honkasalo is a Finnish film director who has also worked as a cinematographer, film editor, producer, screenwriter and actress. In 1980 she co-directed Flame Top with Pekka Lehto, with whom she worked earlier and later as well. The film was chosen for the 1981 Cannes Film Festival. In the 1990s she focused on feature documentaries such as "The Trilogy of the Sacred and the Satanic". Honkasalo returned to fiction with Fire-Eater (1998) and Concrete Night (2013), both of which were written by Pirkko Saisio. Concrete Night won six Jussi Awards in 2014, among them the Jussi for the Best Direction and the Jussi for the Best Film. Its world premiere was at the Toronto International Film Festival in Masters series.
Schlingel is an international film festival for children and young audiences. The festival began in 1996, and has taken place annually in Chemnitz ever since in the week before the Saxon Fall Break. The festival gives an overview of the newest international productions in the area of children and youth films. The festival is organized by the Saxon Children and Youth Films Association in Chemnitz. In addition, since 2006, the Saxon Institution for Private Broadcasting and New Media has also helped to organize this event. The patrons of SCHLINGEL are the Prime Minister of the Free State of Saxony, as well as the Mayor of Chemnitz. The festival is under the directorate of Michael Harbauer.

The Oulu Film Centre is a Finnish cultural organization, founded on 1973. Its mission is to advance knowledge of film culture, history and research. They have many means to do that. For example they consult and advice, rent 16mm films and screen films in their film theatre called Studio. They have also library/archive which consists of press cuttings, posters, volumes and varying numbers of issues and volumes of periodicals. The film library and archives of the film centre are the second largest in Finland. The National Visual Archive is the biggest one. They also arrange seminars and other meetings.
Ella Elisabet Lemhagen is a Swedish film director and screenwriter. In 2012 she received the honorary award, Gullspira, for her outstanding work in youth culture on the Guldbagge Award.
Kule kidz gråter ikke is a 2014 Norwegian drama film directed by Katarina Launing. It is a remake of the 2012 Dutch film Achtste Groepers Huilen Niet, which was based on the book Achtste-groepers huilen niet by Jacques Vriens. The movie stars Mia Helene Solberg Brekke, who portrays Anja, a teen with cancer.
Annina Enckell is a Finnish award winning playwright and screenwriter. Annina Enckell has written plays, radio plays, and TV- and feature film screenplays for children and adults in Swedish and Finnish. She is a screenwriter on the Moomins on the Riviera feature film. She received an award for “De bäst anpassade” at Svenska Teatern, the Swedish National Theatre in Helsinki, and for the feature film Iris, selected the best film at Oulu International Children's and Youth Film Festival (2011). Enkcell is a graduate of The Theatre Academy in Helsinki.
