Katashina is a village located in Gunma Prefecture, Japan. As of 31 October 2020, the village had an estimated population of 4,314 in 1694 households, and a population density of 11 persons per km². The total area of the village is 391.76 square kilometres (151.26 sq mi). m². Much of the village is within the borders of Oze National Park.
Uonuma is a city located in Niigata Prefecture, Japan. As of 1 July 2019, the city had an estimated population of 35,027 in 13,289 households, and a population density of 37 persons per km². Its total area is 946.76 square kilometres (365.55 sq mi). The city is famous for its koshihikari rice, which commands a premium in the Japanese market.

Cormorant fishing is a traditional fishing method in which fishermen use trained cormorants to fish in rivers. Historically, cormorant fishing has taken place in Japan and China, as well as Greece, North Macedonia, and, briefly, England and France. It is first attested as a method used by the ancient Japanese in the Book of Sui, the official history of the Sui Dynasty of China, completed in 636 CE. This technique has also been used in other countries but is currently under threat in China.
The Nagara River has its source in the city of Gujō, Gifu Prefecture, and its mouth in the city of Kuwana, Mie Prefecture, Japan. Along with the Kiso River and Ibi River, the Nagara River is one of the Kiso Three Rivers of the Nōbi Plain. Previously, the river was named Sunomata River. With a length of 166 km (103 mi), it drains an area of 1,985 square kilometres (766 sq mi) in the Chūbu region and empties into Ise Bay. The government of Japan classifies it as a Class 1 river.

Akira Oze is a Japanese manga artist. He made his debut in 1971 under the pen name Megumu Matsumoto (松本めぐむ) writing shōnen manga, but he switched in the 1980s to seinen manga. He is best known for Natsuko's Sake, which was adapted as a live-action television series. Oze won the 1986 Shogakukan Manga Award for shōnen manga for Hatsukoi Scandal and Tobe! Jinrui II.

Hisayoshi Takeda was a notable Japanese botanist whose father was the British diplomat, Sir Ernest Satow. He was a founder of the Japanese Natural History Society, and is known for his campaign to preserve the environment at Oze, which is now Oze National Park.
Hiroyuki Oze was a Japanese baseball outfielder from Daitō, Osaka who played professionally for the Orix Buffaloes. He played two seasons for the club, hitting .262 in his rookie year in 2008 and .303 in 2009, his final professional season. Before joining the Buffaloes, he played at Jinsei Gakuen High School and Kinki University, where he was drafted in 2007. Oze received the memorable nickname "José" from Orix alum Ichiro Suzuki during the latter's visit to Buffaloes spring training.
Hiuchi, also Hiuchigatake is a 2,356m tall stratovolcano mountain in Oze National Park, and located in Hinoemata Village, Minami-Aizu gun, Fukushima Prefecture, Japan. This is the highest mountain in Tōhoku region. The volcano rises in the north of Lake Ozenuma. It is one of the 100 Famous Japanese Mountains.

Mount Shibutsu is a serpentine mountain in the north-east of Gunma Prefecture in Japan. It is 2,228.1 m (7,310 ft) tall and located between Minakami Machi and Katashina Villages. It's one of the 100 Famous Japanese Mountains and is home to a "treasure trove" of alpine plants. It is part of Oze National Park and the Minakami UNESCO Eco Park.
