This 28.3 km (17.6 mi) expressway was built to connect the eastern side of Kuala Lumpur and also to reduce traffic jams along North–South Expressway Southern Route to Sungai Besi toll plaza and Kuala Lumpur–Seremban Expressway to Kuala Lumpur.
