The county was established on February 20, 1799, from portions of Cumberland and Lincoln Counties. The plantation comprises its namesake island and the uninhabited neighboring island of Manana. The island is accessible by scheduled boat service from Boothbay Harbor, New Harbor and Port Clyde. Visitors' cars are not allowed on the island. It was designated a National Natural Landmark for its coastal and island flora in 1966.
Perkins Township is an unorganized territory in Sagadahoc County, Maine, United States. Originally incorporated as the town of Perkins, it was later abandoned, and has been uninhabited since the 1940s. The township comprises Swan Island, Little Swan Island and some tidal flats—all within the Kennebec River between the towns of Richmond and Dresden. The Swan Island Historic District comprises most of the township, with 8 buildings, 5 structures and 1,500 acres (610 ha). Some of the buildings date to the 1750s. The district was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1995. The entire township is now protected as the Steve Powell Wildlife Management Area, and is under the jurisdiction of the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife. Camping, hunting, fishing, and wildlife viewing are permitted between May and October; reservations are required.
The Kennebec River is a 170-mile-long (270 km) river within the U.S. state of Maine. It rises in Moosehead Lake in west-central Maine. The East and West Outlets join at Indian Pond and the river flows southward. Harris Station Dam, the largest hydroelectric dam in the state, was constructed near that confluence. The river is joined at The Forks by its tributary the Dead River, also called the West Branch.
Interstate 295 (I-295) is a 53.11-mile (85.47 km)-long auxiliary Interstate Highway in the U.S. state of Maine from I-95 in Scarborough to I-95 in West Gardiner. The highway was designated the Richard A. Coleman Highway in 2015 by the Maine Legislature. The highway serves as a bypass of Lewiston-Auburn and serves the Greater Portland area. It takes a more direct route between Portland and Augusta, the state capital, than its parent I-95. It also is toll-free, unlike I-95, which carries the tolled Maine Turnpike.

The West Branch Penobscot River is a 117-mile-long (188 km) tributary of the Penobscot River through the North Maine Woods in Maine. The river is also known as Abocadneticook, Kahgognamock, and Kettegwewick.
The West Branch Sheepscot River is a 24.9-mile-long (40.1 km) river in Maine. The branch originates in the northwest corner of Palermo and flows southwesterly through Branch Pond and the village of Weeks Mills in the town of China. The branch then flows southerly through the town of Windsor to a confluence with the Sheepscot River between Coopers Mills and North Whitefield. The branch is bridged by Maine State Route 3 between Branch Pond and Weeks Mills, by Maine State Route 105 at Windsor and by concurrent Maine State Routes 17 and 32 near Coopers Mills.
The Gardiner Public Library is the public library of Gardiner, Maine, and the surrounding communities of Farmingdale, Litchfield, Pittston, Randolph, and West Gardiner. The present library was built in 1881 and designed by architect Henry Richards. In 1930 the R.P. Hazzard wing was added to become the Children's Room, but was later converted to a Reading Room. In 1960 the J. Walter Robinson Reference Wing was added, and in 1977 the Burress Moore, III Children's Room was created using the second floor of the library, which had originally been designed as a public hall known as Library Hall. The Children's Room renovations were finished in 2008. The Community Archives Room was established in 1985 in the basement level of the library. It was renovated in 2016 and serves as the community's local history and genealogy center.

State Route 226 is a state highway located in southern Kennebec County, Maine. It begins at SR 27 and SR 126 in Randolph and runs 5.50 miles (8.85 km) northeast to SR 17 in Chelsea. SR 226 directly connects the two towns and functions as part of a bypass of Augusta to and from points east. The route is locally known as Windsor Street in Randolph and Togus Road in Chelsea.
The Calumet Bridge at Old Fort Western is a bridge in Augusta, Maine, over the Kennebec River. It carries Cony Street from Downtown Augusta on the west side of the river to the east side near Old Fort Western.
