Peter MacNutt (April 5, 1834 ) was a merchant and political figure in Prince Edward Island.

Prince Edward Island is a province of Canada consisting of the Atlantic island of the same name along with several much smaller islands nearby. PEI is one of the three Maritime Provinces. It is the smallest province of Canada in both land area and population, but it is the most densely populated. Part of the traditional lands of the Mi'kmaq, it became a British colony in the 1700s and was federated into Canada as a province in 1873. Its capital is Charlottetown. According to the 2016 census, the province of PEI has 142,907 residents.

He served as a member of the Legislative Council of Prince Edward Island from 1882 to 1886 and from 1890 to 1893. He represented 4th Prince in the Legislative Assembly of Prince Edward Island from 1897 to 1900, and 3rd Prince from 1900 to 1908, as a Liberal member.

The Legislative Council of Prince Edward Island was the upper house of the Legislature of the Canadian province of Prince Edward Island. It existed from 1773 to 1893. Members were appointed by the Lieutenant Governor of Prince Edward Island on the advice of the Premier until 1862 when it became an elected body. In 1893, the Legislative Council and House of Assembly were amalgamated into the Legislative Assembly of Prince Edward Island, a unicameral body with an assemblyman and councillor elected from each electoral district.

4th Prince was an electoral district in the Canadian province of Prince Edward Island, which elected two members to the Legislative Assembly of Prince Edward Island from 1873 to 1993.

The Legislative Assembly of Prince Edward Island, along with the Queen of Canada in Right of Prince Edward Island, represented by the Lieutenant-Governor of Prince Edward Island, forms the parliament of the province. The General Assembly meets at Province House, which is located at the intersection of Richmond and Great George Streets in Charlottetown.

He was born in Darnley, Prince Edward Island, the son of Peter S. MacNutt, a former member of the Legislative Council, and was educated there and at the Central Academy (later Prince of Wales College). He served as a commissioner of small debts and as coroner for Prince County for 43 years. MacNutt was county sheriff from 1875 to 1877. In 1861, he married Anna Stewart MacNutt. With Dugalt S. MacNutt, he established a general store at Malpeque, becoming sole owner in 1888 after his partner's death.
