The Goldfields–Esperance region is one of the nine regions of Western Australia. It is located in the south eastern corner of Western Australia, and comprises the local government areas of Coolgardie, Dundas, Esperance, Kalgoorlie–Boulder, Laverton, Leonora, Menzies, Ngaanyatjarraku, Ravensthorpe and Wiluna.
Esperance is a town in the Goldfields–Esperance region of Western Australia, on the Southern Ocean coastline approximately 720 kilometres (450 mi) east-southeast of the state capital, Perth. The urban population of Esperance was 12,145 at June 2018. Its major industries are tourism, agriculture, and fishing.
The Wheatbelt is one of nine regions of Western Australia defined as administrative areas for the state's regional development, and a vernacular term for the area converted to agriculture during colonisation. It partially surrounds the Perth metropolitan area, extending north from Perth to the Mid West region, and east to the Goldfields–Esperance region. Coolgardie–Esperance Highway is a 370-kilometre (230 mi) Western Australian highway between Coolgardie and Esperance. It runs in a north–south direction linking the state's Eastern Goldfields to the coast.

It has an area of 73,975.59 square kilometres (28,562.13 sq mi). About half of the region has been cleared for intensive agriculture. Recognised as a region under the Interim Biogeographic Regionalisation for Australia (IBRA), it was first defined by John Stanley Beard in 1980.
The Shire of Quairading is a local government area in the Wheatbelt region of Western Australia, about 170 kilometres (106 mi) east of the state capital, Perth. The Shire covers an area of 2,018 square kilometres (779 sq mi), and its seat of government is the town of Quairading.

This is often caused by the presence of salt-tolerant algae that produces carotenoids, such as Dunaliella salina, usually in conjunction with specific bacteria and archaea, which may vary from lake to lake. The most common archaeon is Halobacterium salinarum.
Pink Lake is an outer western suburb of Esperance, a town in south-eastern Western Australia. Its local government area is the Shire of Esperance, and it is located 5 kilometres (3 mi) west-northwest of Esperance's central business district. It is named for Pink Lake, a pink-blue lake located within its boundaries.
Lake Warden is a salt lake in the Goldfields-Esperance region of Western Australia. It and its associated wetlands are protected in a nature reserve; they were recognised as being of international importance under the Ramsar Convention through designation of the Lake Warden System on 7 June 1990 as Ramsar Site 485. The lake is also a DIWA-listed wetland.
Pink Lake is a salt lake in the Goldfields-Esperance region of Western Australia. Although historically the water in the lake was visibly pink, as of 2017 it had not been pink for over ten years. Salt concentration is vital to Pink Lake's pink hue, and Pink Lake may turn pink again as conditions change. It lies about 3 kilometres (2 mi) west of Esperance and is bounded to the east by the South Coast Highway.
Dangin is a small town in the wheatbelt region of Western Australia, about 7.7 kilometres west-south-west of Quairading, in the Shire of Quairading. At the 2006 census, Dangin had a population of 283.
Salt River is a river in the Wheatbelt region of Western Australia. It is a tributary of the Avon River, taking water from two of the Avon's sub-catchments, the Yilgarn River and the Lockhart River, from their junction where it passes through a hydrological-topographical pinch-point at Caroline Gap.
Grevillea pectinata, commonly known as comb-leaf grevillea, is a species of flowering plant in the family Proteaceae and is endemic to the south of Western Australia. It is a spreading shrub with divided, comb-like leaves and mauve-pink to red and cream-coloured to yellow flowers with a red to deep pink style.

Middle Island is an island off the south coast of Western Australia in the Recherche Archipelago, around 120 km (75 mi) south-east of Esperance. It is known for its pink lake, Lake Hillier. Goose Island lies just adjacent to the north.
The Tjeraridjal are an indigenous people of the Goldfields-Esperance region of Western Australia. Horton treats them as synonymous with the Nyanganyatjara, or it may be that they speak the same dialect of the Western Desert Language.
