Poltergeist (also Polter.pl, old rpg.net.pl) is one of the most prominent [1] Polish web portals dedicated to speculative fiction. It has sub-editions about literature, cinema, comics, RPG games, boardgames, wargames, card games, video games and conventions. Polter.pl is also a blogging platform, and contains an extensive web forum.

History

Polter.pl began its existence as an online magazine in 2000. A few months into its existence and after its first issue, Polter.pl turned into a web portal. Since 2004 the publisher of the web portal is Przemysław Prekurat. In 2009 the site changed its look, and in 2011 a payable service called Polter plus was introduced, which offered improved ease of use of the portal and the opportunity to win awards in cyclic lotteries.

Editors

On 1 July 2010 Maciej Reputakowski became the editor-in-chief of the portal (before him, the function was claimed by Przemysław Prekurat). Before them, editors-in-chief were, in order: Tomasz Dzierżek, Maciej Dzierże, Rafał Błaszczak, Przemysław Prekurat and Piotr Brewczyński.

Structurally, the editors groups of Poltergeist are divided into sub-editor groups, defined by a common topic, directed by sub editors-in-chief.

Patronages

Poltergeist patrons many publications of the Polish market - of books, comics and games. [5] It also supports many conventions in Poland.

Forum

An integral part of the portal is a discussion forum. Poltergeist possesses one of the largest speculative fiction forums in Poland, with over 49000 registered users and almost 1 million posts. [6]

Blogs

Every registered user of Polter.pl can easily have their own personal blog integrated with the portal. As its peak, there were around 200 blog posts in a month.[ citation needed ]

Rallies

Editors of Poltergeist used to organize Poltergeist Rallies - week-long summer meetings during which people could meet with the editors and others fans of the portal. The Rally participance was free and open to everyone.

Magia i Miecz was a Polish magazine dedicated to RPG games. It was the first and longest existing magazine of this type in the country. It was published in 1993-2002 by Wydawnictwo MAG. It was a precursor of RPG in Poland and was influential in propagating and popularizing RPGs in the state. In 2014 the rights for the name was bought by Kuźnia Gier publisher and the magazine as again available for a few years.

Gry-Online is a group of Polish websites devoted to computer games and electronic entertainment. In 2017, the German branch of the French publisher Webedia Group bought Gry-OnLine from Empik, thereby entering the Polish market.

CD-Action is a Polish magazine devoted to video games. It was founded in 1996 and published in Wrocław. The magazine was published in a cycle that was not exactly monthly, as subsequent issues of the magazine were published every 28 days. As a result, thirteen issues were released annually. In January 2022, the magazine switched to a quarterly publication cycle. The typical volume of an issue is 124 pages. From December 2006 to July 2011, it was published only in a version with one double-layer DVD. From August 2011 to July 2018, two DVD9 discs were added in a cardboard packaging. In August 2018, the publishing house decided to stop adding a physical medium, replacing it with a scratch card with a code.

<i>The Gods from Outer Space</i> German-Polish comic book series

The Gods from Outer Space is a science fiction comic book series, published in the years 1978–1982 by German publishing house Bastei Verlag, written and drawn by Polish artists. The authors of the script Arnold Mostowicz and Alfred Górny, and the drawings were made by Bogusław Polch. The story was based on the views of Erich von Däniken, a proponent of the fringe theory that in ancient times the Earth was visited by ancient astronauts – representatives of an extraterrestrial civilization.
