Ho Chi Minh City, also known by Khmer name Prey Nokor, and its former name of Saigon, is the most populous city in Vietnam with a population of 8.4 million as of 2017. Located in southeastern Vietnam, the metropolis surrounds the Saigon River and covers about 2,061 square kilometres. From 1955 to 1975, Saigon was the capital of the Republic of Vietnam, commonly known as South Vietnam.
Thủ Đức is an urban district (quận) in the northeast of Hồ Chí Minh City, Vietnam. In 1997, the southern part of Thủ Đức was divided to become District 2 and District 9. In 2010, the district had a population of 455,899. It covers an area of 48 km².
Bình Chánh is an urban district in the southwest of Ho Chi Minh City in Vietnam. High urbanization rate has made Binh Chanh become one of a high population growth districts in the city. As of 2018, the district had a population of 680,000. It covers an area of 253 km2. The district capital lies at Tân Túc.

Vietnam National University Ho Chi Minh City is one of the two largest national universities in Vietnam, founded on 27 January 1995, and reorganized on 12 February 2001, under the Decision no. 15/2001/QĐ-TTg by the Prime Minister of Vietnam Phan Văn Khải. Ho Chi Minh City University of Architecture, is the flagship university in architecture, civil engineering, design education and research in Southeast Asia. In addition to architecture and civil/structural engineering, the university provides higher education in several relating disciplines including urban planning, infrastructural engineering, fine arts, fashion design and building interior design.
