Powershifting, also known as full-throttle shifting or flat-shifting, is a method of shifting used with manual transmissions to reduce the time where the driving wheels are not powered. Unlike a normal gearchange, in a powershift the driver does not let off the accelerator. The clutch is briefly depressed while the shift lever is rapidly shifted into a higher gear, keeping the engine in its power band. Keeping the engine in its powerband allows it to put down power quicker when the clutch is "dropped" and power returns to the transmission. In most cases, there is a method of cutting the ignition or fuel delivery, in a manner similar to a rev-limiter, which prevents the engine from over-revving when the load from the transmission is removed. Many aftermarket engine management systems provide this functionality as either a standard feature or as an option, usually combined with launch control.

Shift time refers to the time interval between gear changes in a transmission. This interval is the time in which power delivery is interrupted and engine speed is reduced or increased to synchronize speed for the next selected gear. Shift time is usually in reference to motor vehicles but can apply to any gearbox. Reducing shift time is important in performance vehicles or race cars because the shifting process generally interrupts power delivery to the wheels. Shift time in a manual gearbox is dependent on the driver, but in automatic or automated manual cars the electronic or hydraulic control system must be calibrated and tuned to deliver a fast gear change.

Power Shift Network

Power Shift Network is a North American non-profit organization made up of a network of youth-led social and environmental justice organizations working together to build the youth clean energy and climate movement. It runs campaigns in the United States and Canada to build grassroots power and advocate for tangible changes on climate change and social justice at local, state, national and international levels in North America. The organization changed its name from Energy Action Coalition in July 2016 in order to reflect its new leadership and it shift from a coalition to a network structure. The Power Shift Network's members, which include other non-profit organizations and student groups focused on environmental justice, social justice, and climate change, focus their organizing and campaigns on campuses, communities, corporate practices, and politics. The Power Shift Network is part of the Global Youth Climate Movement.

Twin Clutch SST is the brand name of a six-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission, developed by Getrag for Mitsubishi Motors. The system was first incorporated in the 2008 Lancer Evolution X, and was designed to be a more performance-oriented system than that developed by rival manufacturers, with shorter gear ratios optimized for acceleration.

A dual-clutch transmission (DCT) is a type of multi-speed vehicle transmission system, that uses two separate clutches for odd and even gear sets. The design is often similar to two separate manual transmissions with their respective clutches contained within one housing, and working as one unit. In car and truck applications, the DCT functions as an automatic transmission, requiring no driver input to change gears.

The John Deere PowerShift transmission was an eight-speed semi-automatic transmission without a torque converter, used in John Deere tractors, including the iconic John Deere Model 4020. The Powershift is not to be confused with similar John Deere transmissions, or with the Ford Ultra Command Powershift or the Allis Chalmers Power Director. The PowerShift was dropped in favor of the PowrQuad during the 1980s and reintroduced in the 90s as a 16-speed model built by Funk, a company that was eventually purchased by John Deere. The 5-speed version was also used in the Ford 8630 series tractors as a 36-speed Funk Ultra Command.
