The Public Health Engineering Department is a department of the government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. It is responsible for the provision of clean drinking water, hygiene facilities, and a healthy environment to the people of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The department also plans, executes, and maintains the supply of drinking water and sanitation schemes in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. History

The department was established in 1974, It was later upgraded to an administrative department in 1992. Later in 2001, it was merged into the Communication and Works Department. In November 2009, it became an independent department. [2] [5]

Functions

The department has been assigned different functions related to public welfare. [1] [6]

Organization

The department has four chief engineers (CE); 20 SE[ expand acronym ] and field directional engineers (DD); 52 executive engineers (XEN) and divisional engineers (DE); 100 sub-divisional officers (SDO) and assistant divisional engineers (ADE); 206 S/Es;[ expand acronym ] 1426 support staff; and 9292 operational staff. Asia Saleh Khattak currently heads the 14-member KP assembly committee on the Public Health Engineering Department. [7]
