Puqian (Chinese :铺前镇) is a port town on the eastern shore of Dongzhai Harbor in Wenchang, Hainan province, China. [1] [2]

Chinese language family of languages

Chinese is a group of related, but in many cases not mutually intelligible, language varieties, forming the Sinitic branch of the Sino-Tibetan language family. Chinese is spoken by the ethnic Chinese majority and many minority ethnic groups in China. About 1.2 billion people speak some form of Chinese as their first language.

Dongzhai Harbor

Dongzhai Harbor (东寨港) is located in the northeast of Hainan Province, China. This water body is bordered by Haikou's Meilan District at the west and Wenchang at the east.

Wenchang is a county-level city in the northeast of Hainan province, China. Although called a "city", Wenchang refers to a large land area in Hainan - an area which was once a county. The urban center and the seat of government of Wenchang is officially known as "Wencheng Town" (文城镇), which is also colloquially referred to as Wenchang City.

A road running from the port at the west to the southernmost point of the main road is lined with tong lau buildings similar in style to those of Haikou's Bo'ai Road area and those on Wennan Old Street in Wencheng Town, Wenchang. While the Bo'ai Road area buildings are in the process of being restored, and Wennan Old Street buildings have been completely restored, the buildings on Puqian's old street are dilapidated, some of which have been condemned or structurally collapsed inside.

Tong lau

The term tong lau or qi lou is used to describe tenement buildings built in late 19th century to the 1960s in Hong Kong, Taiwan, Southern China and South East Asia. Designed for both residential and commercial uses, they are similar in style and function to the shophouses with five foot way of Southeast Asia. Over the years, tong lau construction has seen influences of Edwardian style architecture and later the Bauhaus movement.

Boai Road area

The Bo'ai Road area is a historical neighbourhood in Haikou City, Hainan, China. It is located on the south side of the Haidian River, at the northern part of mainland Haikou. The main hub of the neighbourhood is the north-south Bo'ai Road itself, a commercial road with shops selling such items as fabrics, wholesale toys, and pets, in particular freshwater fish.

Access

Prior to 2019, access from Haikou was by road around Dongzhai Harbor, or by ferry boat from a small peninsula within the harbor. From 2019 onward, the Puqian Bridge, which crosses the mouth of the harbor provides more direct access to Haikou. Puqian still has ferry service to the nearby Beigang Island.

Beigang Island

Beigang Island, literally North Port Island, is a small island located in the mouth of Dongzhai Harbor, Hainan, China. There are three villages, fish farms, and some mangroves on the island. Beigang Island is under the jurisdiction of Meilan District.

South Port is a port located on the western coast of Xiuying District, Haikou, Hainan, China. It operates as the south terminal of the Yuehai Ferry service, part of the Guangdong–Hainan Railway. This ferry transports train cars across the Qiongzhou Strait between the Leizhou Peninsula at the southern tip of Guangdong on mainland China, and the northern coast of Hainan. Ferry boats arrive at South Port, unload the train cars onto tracks. The train cars then proceed a few hundred metres southeast to the Haikou Railway Station which is the last stop on the Guangdong–Hainan Railway.

Dongzhai Port Nature Reserve

Dongzhai Port Nature Reserve, also called the Hainan Dongzhai Bay National Nature Reserve, Dongzhai Harbor Mangrove, and Dongzhai Harbor Mangrove Natural Reserve Area, is located within Dongzhai Harbor, in the area of Yanfeng Town, Meilan District, Haikou, Hainan, China. It has an area of 2,500 hectares and includes six rivers. The coastline is very irregular and includes a number of bays and tidewater gullies. The mangrove forest on the south coast provides a habitat for birds and other wildlife.

Hainan eastern ring high-speed railway railway line

The Hainan eastern ring high-speed railway is a high-speed railway on Hainan Island. It is part of China Railway High-speed. Opened in December 2010, the railway links the capital Haikou at the northern end of the province to the resort city of Sanya in the southernmost region of the island.

Haikou railway station

Haikou railway station (Chinese:海口站) is the northern terminal of the Hainan Eastern Ring High-Speed Railway, the Hainan Western Ring High-Speed Railway, and the Hainan Western Ring Railway. It is located a few hundred metres southeast of South Port, the Hainan terminal of the Guangdong–Hainan Railway, in the far western suburbs of Haikou, the capital of Hainan Province of the People's Republic of China.

Hainan western ring railway

The Hainan western ring railway is a standard-gauge railway running along the coast of the western half of Hainan Island in South China. It connects the provincial capital Haikou on the island's north coast with Sanya, the major city on Hainan's south coast. The rail line is 363.8 km long; its terminals are Haikou railway station and Sanya railway station. Cargo trains enter this railway from Zhanjiang, Guangdong at the South Port of the Guangdong–Hainan Railway.

The Guangdong–Hainan railway is a railway that operates from Haikou railway station in Hainan, to the South Port a few hundred metres northwest at the coast, across the Qiongzhou Strait by ferry to Zhanjiang at the tip of the Leizhou Peninsula in Guangdong, and then north into Guangdong.

Haiwen Bridge bridge in Peoples Republic of China

Haiwen Bridge is a cable-stayed bridge located east of Haikou City, Hainan, China. It crosses the mouth of Dongzhai Harbor and was built to provide quicker access between Haikou and Wenchang, a large, administrative division of Hainan province. The bridge reduced travel time from Haikou to Wenchang City from 90 minutes down to around 20 minutes.

East Lake Triangle Pool

East Lake Triangle Pool, commonly known as East Lake, is a set of two small lakes in the East Lake area of Haikou, Hainan, China. It is located at the south-west corner of the Bo'ai Road area and at the north side of People's Park.
