Purdue University is a public land-grant research university in West Lafayette, Indiana, and the flagship campus of the Purdue University system. The university was founded in 1869 after Lafayette businessman John Purdue donated land and money to establish a college of science, technology, and agriculture in his name. The first classes were held on September 16, 1874, with six instructors and 39 students. It has been ranked as among the best public universities in the United States by major institutional rankings, and is renowned for its engineering program.

Indiana University–Purdue University Fort Wayne (IPFW) was a public university in Fort Wayne, Indiana. Founded in 1964, IPFW was a cooperatively-managed regional campus of two state university systems: Indiana University and Purdue University. IPFW hit its highest enrollment in 2014, with 13,459 undergraduate and postgraduate students in nine colleges and schools, including a branch of the Indiana University School of Medicine. During its last academic year (2017–2018), IPFW had a total enrollment of 10,414 students. IPFW offered more than 200 graduate and undergraduate degree programs through IU or Purdue universities. The university's 14 men's and women's athletic teams competed in Division I of the NCAA Summit League.

WBAA and WBAA-FM (101.3 FM) are two non-commercial educational radio stations licensed to West Lafayette, Indiana, United States, both serving the Lafayette metro area with public radio formats. WBAA's format is exclusively news-oriented with programming from National Public Radio (NPR), while WBAA-FM features a mixture of NPR news and classical music. The stations are currently owned by Purdue University and broadcast from studios in the Edward C. Elliott Hall of Music on the Purdue campus, with transmitters south of Lafayette at the Throckmorton Purdue Agricultural Center.

The 725-acre (2.93 km2) flagship West Lafayette park is located less than 2 miles (3 km) north of Purdue University's West Lafayette campus, and is the largest university-affiliated research park in the United States. The other facilities are located in Merrillville, Indianapolis, and New Albany. The parks were developed by the Purdue Research Foundation.
