Puthukkudiyiruppu[ needs IPA ] (Tamil meaning: new settlement) is a village in the Batticaloa District of Sri Lanka. It can be spelled in different ways in English, however in the local Tamil language it can only be spelled one way. There is another Puthukkudiyiruppu in the Mullaitivu District of Sri Lanka.

Dissanayake Mudiyanselage Sugath Chandrasiri Bandara, PWV was a Sri Lanka Army soldier. He served with the army's elite Special Forces Regiment during Eelam War IV, the final stage of the Sri Lankan Civil War. The Puthukkudiyiruppu bombing was an aerial attack carried out against Sri Lankan Tamil civilians by the Sri Lankan Air Force on September 15 in the year 1999 killing over 21 including schoolchildren and women as well as inflicting serious injuries upon many more.

The Battle of Pulukunawa took place during the Sri Lankan Civil War. It occurred on 11 December 1996 in which the LTTE militants attacked and overran the Special Task Force detachment at Pulukunawa in Ampara.
