The Historical Dictionary of Switzerland is an encyclopedia on the history of Switzerland. It aims to present the history of Switzerland in the form of an encyclopaedia, published both on paper and on the internet, in three of the country's national languages: German, French and Italian. When it was completed at the end of 2014, the paper version contained around 36,000 articles divided into thirteen volumes. At the same time, a reduced edition of the dictionary has been published in Romansh under the title Lexicon istoric retic (LIR), and constitutes the first specialist dictionary in the Rhaeto-Romance, Switzerland.
Plessur District is a former administrative district in the canton of Graubünden, Switzerland. It had an area of 266.73 km2 (102.99 sq mi) and has a population of 40,707 in 2015. The former district is named after the river Plessur which crosses it. However, the region along the Plessur –and therefore the whole valley–is called Schanfigg. It was replaced with the Plessur Region on 1 January 2017 as part of a reorganization of the Canton.
Churwalden is a municipality in the Plessur Region in the canton of Graubünden in Switzerland. It incorporates the former municipalities of Malix and Parpan.
Calfreisen is a former municipality in the district of Plessur in the canton of Graubünden in Switzerland. On 1 January 2013 the former municipalities of Calfreisen, Castiel, Langwies, Lüen, Molinis, Peist and St. Peter-Pagig merged into the municipality of Arosa.
St. Peter-Pagig is a former municipality in the district of Plessur in the Grisons, Switzerland. It was formed on 1 January 2008 through the merger of St. Peter and Pagig. On 1 January 2013 the former municipalities of St. Peter-Pagig, Calfreisen, Castiel, Langwies, Lüen, Molinis and Peist merged into the municipality of Arosa.
The Wigger is a river in the Swiss cantons of Lucerne and Aargau. It is an important tributary of the river Aare. The Wigger is around 41 kilometers long and flows from south to north for most of its length. The largest city in the Wigger valley is Zofingen.
The Plessur is a river, 33 km (21 mi) long, and a right tributary of the Rhine running through the Swiss canton of Graubünden. Its head is near Arosa in the Plessur Range. It then flows through the Schanfigg valley before emptying into the Rhine at Chur.
The Rabiusa is a 32 km long tributary of the Rhine. The river originates in the district Hinterrhein in the canton of Graubünden, in the mountains surrounding the Bärenhorn, where the old bridle path from Safien to Splügen crosses the Safierberg Pass. It then flows through the wooded Safien valley and into the rough Versam Gorge, where it is spanned by the Versam Gorge Bridge. The confluence with the Anterior Rhine is located in the equally deep Ruinaulta.
The Gümmenenkrieg was a war between the emergent city-states of Bern and Fribourg in 1331-33 in what is now Switzerland. The war pitted Bern and the new Swiss Confederation against the Habsburg-supported city of Fribourg and local nobles. It was also the first in a series of battles that brought the Habsburgs and Fribourg into prominence in the County of Burgundy. The war ended without resolving anything and led to other wars between Bern and Fribourg.
Johann Albert Bachmann was a Swiss lexicographer and dialectologist, professor for Germanic philology at Zürich University from 1896. From 1892 he was an editor of the Schweizerisches Idiotikon dictionary, acting as editor-in-chief from 1896 until his death. Bachmann specialized on Swiss German dialects. He edited the series Beiträge zur Schweizerdeutschen Grammatik and founded, together with Louis Gauchat, the Phonographic Archive of Zurich University in 1913.
The Emmental Alps are a mountain range in the western part of the Alps, in Switzerland. They are located north-west of the Brünig Pass, mainly in the cantons of Lucerne, Bern, and Obwalden, with a small portion in the canton of Nidwalden. The highest summit of the range is the Brienzer Rothorn, which is also the highest point in the canton of Lucerne. The range is named after the Emme valley. In the north-west corner one finds the relatively low, but widespread, and very furrowed Napf.
The Plessur Region is one of the eleven administrative districts in the canton of Graubünden in Switzerland. It had an area of 285.30 square kilometers (110.15 sq mi) and a population of 42,822. It was created on 1 January 2017 as part of a reorganization of the Canton.
The Landquart–Thusis railway line is a Swiss metre-gauge railway line running from Landquart via Chur to Thusis. It is part of the Rhaetian Railway core network and provides a connection between the Landquart–Davos Platz railway and the Albula Railway. Between Landquart and Chur, the line runs largely parallel to the standard-gauge Chur–Rorschach railway of Swiss Federal Railways (SBB). The line from Chur to Thusis was opened in 1896.
Bernhard Attinger is a former Swiss curler. He played third position on the Swiss rink that won two European Curling Championships and medals at the World Men's Championships in 1979 and 1984 (silver) and 1974 (bronze).

Charles Jacot-Guillarmod was a Swiss topographer and geographer. He was born in La Chaux-de-Fonds in 1868 and he died in Noiraigue in 1925.
