The Railserve Leaf is a genset locomotive built by Railserve. It is constructed in both single- and dual-engine variants, and is primarily used in low-speed and high tractive effort switching and shortline applications. [1]

A genset locomotive is a locomotive in which a number of smaller diesel engines are used rather than a single large engine. The term is short for "generator set."

The Leaf was introduced in the single-engine model in 2010, [2] of which 32 had been built by the end of 2012. [3] The dual-engine version of the locomotive, powered by two 600-horsepower Cummins QSX15 engines, was introduced in 2012. [3] In 2016, the locomotive was updated to meet EPA Tier 4 emissions standards, [2] and the first Tier 4compliant Leaf entered service in mid-2017. [1]

Brookville BL20GH

The Brookville BL20GH or BL20-GH is a road switcher diesel-electric locomotive built by the Brookville Equipment Corporation. The locomotive is designed for both freight and passenger service. Brookville built 12 in 2008 for the Metro-North Railroad. The Staten Island Railway operates four nearly identical BL20G locomotives, built by Brookville in December 2008, in work service.

NRE 3GS21B

The NRE 3GS21B is a low-emissions diesel switcher locomotive built by National Railway Equipment. It is powered by three Cummins QSK19C I6 engines with each one developing 700 horsepower (522 kW) and creating a total power output of 2,100 horsepower (1,570 kW). Having multiple engines instead of a single prime mover, a design referred to as a "Genset," reduces overall diesel emissions and improves fuel efficiency. More than 150 of the 3GS21B Genset locomotives have been produced to date, with the majority of these units being manufactured at NREC's Mount Vernon shops in Southern Illinois. In addition, three road slug models have also been produced.

The New Zealand DL class of diesel-electric locomotives was manufactured for KiwiRail by CRRC Dalian with engines from MTU. They are the most powerful diesel-electric locomotives in service in New Zealand.

EMD F125 passenger diesel locomotive class

The EMD F125 Spirit is a four-axle passenger diesel locomotive manufactured by EMD for the North American market. It is powered by a Caterpillar C175-20 V20 diesel engine rated at 4,700 hp (3,500 kW). The locomotive is capable of traveling at a maximum in-service speed of 125 mph (201 km/h) pulling consists of up to 10 cars. It is EMD's first new domestic passenger locomotive in 15 years, with the previous passenger locomotive being the EMD DE30AC and DM30AC built for the Long Island Rail Road.

Siemens Charger diesel-electric locomotive model

The Siemens Charger is a family of diesel-electric passenger locomotive designed and manufactured by Siemens Mobility for the North American market. There are two models: the SCB-40, which was designed for Brightline, and the SC-44. The first production SC-44 unit was unveiled on March 26, 2016. The first SC-44 unit went into Amtrak revenue service on August 24, 2017, followed by the SCB-40, which inaugurated Brightline service on January 13, 2018.

Newag Dragon

The Newag Dragon is a Polish made six-axle electric locomotive, designed for freight trains up to 4500 tons. The locomotive is built by Newag company, between 2009-2016 in its Gliwice plant, since 2017 in Nowy Sącz plant. By November 2018, 18 units have been built and delivered to 5 different railway operators in Poland.

The EMD 1010 or EMD 265 is a line of four-stroke diesel engines manufactured by Electro-Motive Diesel. The precursor to the 1010 was introduced around 1998 as the 265H or H-Engine. The H-engine was initially designed for use as a 6,300 hp (4,700 kW) 16 cylinder, the EMD SD90MAC; however, the early engines were found to be unreliable, and unsuccessful in the market, with the proven EMD 710 2-stroke design being preferred. The EMD four-stroke engine was resurrected in 2015 to meet EPA Tier 4 emissions regulations.
