Rajo, Syria Town in Aleppo Governorate, Syria

Rajo or Raju is a town in Afrin District, Aleppo Governorate, northwestern Syria. Rajo is the center of a sub-district of the same name with approximately 65 villages and farms around it. The town has around 4,000 inhabitants while the total population of the sub-district is 21,955.

Dewey Gatson, better known as Rajo Jack or his pseudonym Jack DeSoto, was an American racecar driver. He is known as one of the first African American racers in America. He won races up and down the West Coast of the United States in stock cars, midgets, big cars and motorcycles. Rajo Jack was inducted in the West Coast Stock Car Hall of Fame in 2003 and the National Sprint Car Hall of Fame in 2007.

Meidan Ekbis or Maydan Ikbis is a town in northern Syria, administratively part of the Afrin District of Aleppo Governorate, located north of Aleppo. Nearby localities include Afrin and Rajo to the south. The town lies on the Syria–Turkey border and is a stop on the main railroad crossing into Turkey on the Baghdad Railway and Istanbul-Aleppo-Damascus line. According to the Syria Central Bureau of Statistics, Meidan Ekbis had a population of 1,302 in the 2004 census. By late July 2013, People's Protection Units (YPG) fighters controlled the town. On February 23rd 2018, the village came under the control of Turkish-backed Free Syrian Army.

The town is also the administrative center of the Maabatli nahiyah of the Afrin District a combined population of 11,741. Previously controlled by YPG since 2012 as a part of the Afrin canton, Turkish-backed Free Syrian Army forces took control of the city alongside the Afrin city center on March 18, 2018.
