Karnataka is a state in the south western region of India. It was formed on 1 November 1956, with the passage of the States Reorganisation Act. Originally known as the State of Mysore, it was renamed Karnataka in 1973. The state corresponds to the Carnatic region. Its capital and largest city is Bangalore.
The Kannada people or Kannadigas, are a Dravidian ethno-linguistic group who trace their ancestry to the South Indian state of Karnataka in India and its surrounding regions. Kannada belongs to the Dravidian family of languages. An alternate English demonym for Kannadigas in modern works of history is "Kanarese". Modern Kannada stands among 30 of the most widely spoken languages of the world as of 2001.
Haradanahalli Doddegowda Deve Gowda is an Indian politician from the state of Karnataka. He served as the 11th prime minister of India from 1 June 1996 to 21 April 1997. He was previously the 14th Chief Minister of Karnataka from 1994 to 1996. He presently is a Member of Parliament in the Rajya Sabha representing Karnataka. He is the National President of the Janata Dal (Secular) party.
Udupi, otherwise spelt Udipi and also known as Odipu, is a city in the Indian state of Karnataka. Udupi is situated about 55 km (34 mi) north of the educational, commercial and industrial hub of Mangalore and about 422 km (262 mi) west of state capital Bangalore by road.

The Janata Dal (Secular) is an Indian political party led by former prime minister of India, H. D. Deve Gowda. The party is recognized as a State Party in the states of Karnataka, Kerala and Arunachal Pradesh. It was formed in July 1999 by the split of Janata Dal party. It has a political presence mainly in Karnataka. In Kerala, the party is a part of the Left Democratic Front (LDF).

Bookanakere Siddalingappa Yediyurappa, often referred to by his initials BSY, is an Indian politician who served as the 19th Chief Minister of Karnataka, and currently a Member of the Karnataka Legislative Assembly. He is a member of the Bharatiya Janata Party. He is also the only politician so far in Karnataka to have served four times as Chief Minister and three times as Leader of the Opposition in the Karnataka Legislative Assembly. He is a MLA from Shikaripura constituency in Shimoga district, from where he has been elected eight times. He is popularly referred to as Raja Huli by the media.
The Government of Karnataka is a democratically elected body with the governor as the ceremonial head. The governor who is appointed for five years appoints the chief minister and on the advice of the chief minister appoints his council of ministers. Even though the governor remains the ceremonial head of the state, the day-to-day running of the government is taken care of by the chief minister and his council of ministers in whom a great amount of legislative powers are vested.
Karnataka cricket team represents the Indian state of Karnataka in domestic cricket competitions. It has traditionally been one of the strongest teams in the domestic circuit and has produced many of Indian cricket team's iconic players. It was known as Mysore cricket team before the state of Mysore was officially renamed as Karnataka in 1973. It has won the Ranji Trophy eight times and has come second six times. The team's home ground is the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. Karnataka is one of the highest economic growth states in India with an expected GSDP growth of 8.2% in the 2010–11 fiscal year. The total expected GSDP of Karnataka in 2010–2011 is about ₹2719.56 billion. Karnataka recorded the highest growth rates in terms of GDP and per capita GDP in the last decade compared to other states. In 2008–09, the tertiary sector contributed the most to GSDP, followed by the secondary sector, and the primary sector.
The Karnataka Legislative Assembly is the lower house of the bicameral legislature of Karnataka in South India. Karnataka is one of the six states in India where the state legislature is bicameral, comprising two houses. The two houses are the Vidhan Sabha and the Vidhan Parishad.
Mapanna Mallikarjun Kharge is an Indian politician who is the current Member of Parliament, Rajya Sabha from Karnataka and Leader of the Opposition of Rajya Sabha from 16 February 2021. He is the former Minister of Railways and Minister of Labour and Employment in the Government of India. Kharge is a member of the Indian National Congress (INC) political party and was a Member of Parliament for Gulbarga, Karnataka during 2009–2019.

Basavaraj Somappa Bommai is an Indian politician and engineer who is the current and 23rd Chief Minister of Karnataka. He is a member of the Bharatiya Janata Party. He is Member of Legislative Assembly in the legislature of Karnataka for Shiggaon, from where he has been elected three times since 2008. A graduate in Mechanical engineering, Bommai started his political career with the Janata Dal. Between 1998 and 2008, he was a member of the Karnataka Legislative Council. He served as Minister for Water Resources and Cooperation between 2008 and 2013. Bommai served as Minister of Home Affairs, Co-operation, Law and Justice, Parliamentary Affairs and Legislature of Karnataka in the Fourth Yediyurappa ministry. He also served as Minister in charge of Haveri and Udupi districts. On 28 July 2021, he succeeded B. S. Yediyurappa as the Chief Minister of Karnataka.
Bangalore, officially known as Bengaluru, is the capital and the largest city of the Indian state of Karnataka. The first case of the COVID-19 pandemic in the Indian state of Karnataka was confirmed on 8 March 2020. Two days later, the state became the first in India to invoke the provisions of the Epidemic Diseases Act, 1897, which are set to last for a year, to curb the spread of the disease. As of 30 May 2021, Karnataka have 2587827 confirmed cases and 28679 deaths. with 2217117 recovered cases and 342010 active cases.
