Ranesh Dasgupta Film Society was established in 2008. This was named after writer and cultural activist Ranesh Das Gupta. Moshiah Uddin Shaker was the founder president and Arafatul Kabir Rizvi was founder general secretary of this film Society
Ranesh Dasgupta Film Society works for free and liberal cultural film society activism. It arranged several seminal, festival and film making workshop on regular interval. In 2015, Raneh Dasgupta Film society and Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy jointly organized Muktopran Film festival 2015. Independent film makers participated in this festival.

Shaji Neelakantan Karun is an Indian film director and cinematographer. His debut film Piravi (1988) won the Caméra d'Or – Mention d'honneur at the 1989 Cannes Film Festival. He was the premiere chairman of the Kerala State Chalachitra Academy, the first academy for film and TV in India and was also the executive chairman of the International Film Festival of Kerala (IFFK) from 1998 to 2001. He is best known for his award-winning films Piravi (1988), Swaham (1994), Vanaprastham (1999) and Kutty Srank (2009). He won the National Award for Best Director for his debut film Piravi. He also won two Kerala State Film Awards for Best Director for his films Swaham and Vanaprastham.Currently, he is the Chairman of Kerala State Film Development Corporation.

Chidananda Das Gupta was an Indian filmmaker, film critic, a film historian and one of the founders of Calcutta Film Society with Satyajit Ray in 1947. He lived and worked in Calcutta and Santiniketan.
Calcutta Film Society was India’s second film society in the city of Kolkata, West Bengal, India. It was founded in 1947, just after independence, by Satyajit Ray, Chidananda Dasgupta, RP Gupta, Bansi Chandragupta, Harisadhan Dasgupta and others. The 1925 silent film directed by Sergei Eisenstein, The Battleship Potemkin was the first film screened at the film society, which over the years developed the reputation of having the "most cine-literate audiences in the country". It was revived in 1956 with the efforts of stalwarts like Dasgupta, Vijaya Mulay, Diptendu Pramanick and Satyajit Ray.

Five of his films have won the National Film Award for Best Feature Film, Bagh Bahadur (1989), Charachar (1993), Lal Darja (1997), Mondo Meyer Upakhyan (2002) and Kaalpurush (2008), while Dooratwa (1978) and Tahader Katha (1993) have won the National Film Award for Best Feature Film in Bengali. As a director, he has won National Film Award for Best Direction twice, for Uttara (2000) and Swapner Din (2005). Over the years he has published several works of poetry including Govir Araley, Coffin Kimba Suitcase, Himjog, Chhaata Kahini, Roboter Gaan, Sreshtha Kabita, and Bhomboler Ascharya Kahini O Ananya Kabita.

Jayasree has assisted renowned film directors including Buddhadeb Dasgupta and Rituparno Ghosh. She has worked as a casting director in international productions such as Sara Gravion's Brick Lane, Sangeeta Dutta's Life Goes On and Italo Spinelli's Behind the Bodice (2009).
