Raymond Christopher Daniel (born 10 December 1964) is an English former professional footballer. Born in Luton, he began his career with his hometown club Luton Town and later played for Gillingham, Hull City, Cardiff City, Portsmouth, Notts County and Walsall. He made over 250 appearances in The Football League between 1982 and 1997. [3] He helped Portsmouth to the 1992 FA Cup semi final, but they lost in a penalty shoot-out to Liverpool.

The 1987–88 season was the 103rd season in the history of Luton Town Football Club. It was Luton Town's 68th consecutive season in the Football League, and their 71st overall. It was also their sixth successive season in the First Division, and their 12th overall. The season is one of the club's most successful of all time, as Luton Town achieved a ninth-place finish in the league, won the Football League Cup, and reached the FA Cup semi-final and Full Members' Cup final. As League Cup winners, they would normally have qualified for the UEFA Cup, but were denied a first foray into European competition due to the ban on English clubs as a result of the 1985 Heysel disaster continuing for a fourth season.

During the 1988–89 English football season, Luton Town F.C. competed in the Football League First Division, in which they finished 16th to secure an eighth successive season at this level. They were holders of the League Cup for this season and maintained their defence of the trophy to the final, where they were beaten by Nottingham Forest.

During the 1989–90 English football season, Luton Town F.C. competed in the Football League First Division. They finished 17th in the First Division, only escaping relegation on goal difference. There was a managerial change halfway through the season when Ray Harford was sacked after 2+12 years in charge to be succeeded by Jimmy Ryan.

During the 1990–91 English football season, Luton Town F.C. competed in the Football League First Division. They finished the season in 18th place, but avoided relegation due to an expansion of the First Division from 20 to 22 clubs for the following season, securing Luton a 10th successive season of First Division football. Manager Jimmy Ryan was dismissed shortly afterwards to make way for the returning David Pleat, who had previously been in charge from 1978 to 1986.

The 1987–88 season was Arsenal Football Club's 62nd consecutive season in the top flight of English football. Arsenal finished sixth in the Football League First Division. Although the team again reached the final of the League Cup, Arsenal could not replicate the previous season's success, losing 3-2 to Luton Town. Arsenal lost in the quarterfinals of the FA Cup to Nottingham Forest.
