Rebecca Claire Harris (born 26 March 1992) is a British film producer.

Early life

Harris grew up in Clanfield, Hampshire. [1]

Career

She studied film production at the University of West London, graduating in 2013. [1] Harris is best known for producing The Silent Child . [2] [3] [1] [4] The film won the Academy Award for Best Live Action Short Film at the 90th Academy Awards. [5] [6] It tells the story of Libby, a profoundly deaf four-year-old girl, played by Maisie Sly, who lives a silent life until a social worker, played by Rachel Shenton, teaches her how to communicate through sign language. [7] The film's television debut was on BBC One to an audience of 3.6 million. [8]

Harris produced A Glimpse, starring Rachel Shenton and Chris Overton, which garnered critical acclaim [9] [10] and premiered in the UK in 2019 at Raindance Film Festival, [11] in the US in 2020 at Santa Barbara International Film Festival. [12] and in Australia in 2020 at Flickerfest International Film Festival. [13]

Harris was commissioned by The Uncertain Kingdom to produce the film Sucka Punch as part of an anthology of twenty short films, [14] released on Curzon Home Cinema, Amazon Prime, Google Play and iTunes in April 2020, which together offer an alternative snapshot of the UK in the year 2020. [15]

Recognition

Harris received the title Honorary Doctor of Letters from The University of West London in 2018. [16]

Feras Fayyad is a Syrian film director, producer, and writer. Fayyad best known for his 2017 documentary Last Men in Aleppo and his 2019 documentary The Cave, both films earned him critical acclaim and numerous awards and nominations including two Academy Award for Best Documentary Feature, making him the first Syrian director to be nominated for an Oscar. Laura Checkoway is a documentary filmmaker and writer, known for her documentary Edith+Eddie for which she received an Academy Award for Best Documentary Short Subject nomination at the 90th Academy Awards. The film also received an Emmy nomination and won numerous awards including the IDA Documentary Awards Best Short. In The New Yorker, critic Richard Brody wrote: “One of the most impressive aspects of Checkoway’s film is that, with a simple and straightforward approach, she brings the overwhelming force of abstract institutions seemingly onto the screen.” Academy Award winning filmmaker Julia Reichert called Edith+Eddie "One of the most beautiful and quietly furious films I've ever seen." Checkoway's documentary The Cave of Adullam is executive produced by Laurence Fishburne and premiered at Tribeca Film Festival in 2022, winning top prizes Best Documentary Feature, Best Editing, and the Audience Award. In an interview with Deadline, Fishburne said: “She has a cinematic sensitivity and a doctor’s bedside manner... Laura doesn’t impose her personality or her energy onto anything. Chris Overton is an English actor and filmmaker, best known for his film, The Silent Child for which he received critical acclaim and won the Academy Award for Best Live Action Short Film. Overton is the husband of Rachel Shenton, who wrote and starred in The Silent Child.

He is the co-founder, with his wife Bonni Cohen, of Actual Films, a documentary film company based in San Francisco, CA. He co-directed and photographed Lead Me Home which premiered in 2021 at the Telluride Film Festival, was acquired by Netflix, and was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Documentary in 2022.
