Resistance: Journal of the Earth Liberation Movement was an environmentalist magazine that was created with the stated aim to "inform, inspire, and energize the earth liberation movement". [1] One of the activists involved was former Earth Liberation Front spokesman, Craig Rosebraugh. [2]
The issues carry several articles on the philosophy of direct action in defense of earth liberation, news concerning the struggle and the environmental crisis, practical discussions on strategies and security issues, as well as listing the diary of actions for various earth liberation groups like the Earth Liberation Front and the Animal Liberation Front.
The first issue was published in Summer of 2009. [3] [4] According to their website, the magazine has a worldwide based subscription, and can be found on several mainstream bookstores, such as Borders and Chapters Indigo, as well as hundreds of independent bookstores and Infoshops across the United States and Canada. [1]
Rosebraugh, one of the co-editors, explained in an interview that the magazine was searching a more mainstream distribution in order to create "an effective, diverse and large movement to protect the planet". [5] He believes that when governments and politicians refuse to act to protect it, it is "up to all of us to step in and protect our home." The goal, he says, is to "remove the profit motive that is driving environmental destruction." Rosebraugh says that the magazine "was created to inform readers not only of the dangerous state of the planet, but also the urgency of action."

Green Anarchy was a magazine published by a collective located in Eugene, Oregon. The magazine's focus was primitivism, post-left anarchy, radical environmentalism, African American struggles, anarchist resistance, indigenous resistance, earth and animal liberation, anti-capitalism and supporting political prisoners. It had a circulation of 8,000, partly in prisons, the prison subscribers given free copies of each issue as stated in the magazine. Green Anarchy was started in 2000 and in 2009 the Green Anarchy website shut down, leaving a final, brief message about the cessation of the magazine's publication.

Operation Backfire is a multi-agency criminal investigation, led by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), into destructive acts in the name of animal rights and environmental causes in the United States described as eco-terrorism by the FBI. The operation resulted in convictions and imprisonment of a number of people, many of which were members of the Animal Liberation Front and Earth Liberation Front.

William C. Rodgers was an environmental activist, animal rights activist and a co-proprietor of the Catalyst Infoshop in Prescott, Arizona, USA. He was one of six environmental activists arrested December 7, 2005 as part of the FBI's Operation Backfire. His charge was one count of arson for a June, 1998 fire set by the Earth Liberation Front (ELF) at the National Wildlife Research Center in Olympia, Washington. He was found dead in his jail cell on December 21, 2005. According to police, Rodgers committed suicide using a plastic bag.
