Roar Emotion (foaled on January 30, 2000 in Kentucky) is an American Thoroughbred racehorse. The granddaughter of Forty Niner will best be remembered for her score in the mile and an eighth Grade II $250,000 Black-Eyed Susan Stakes at Pimlico Race Course on 16, May 2003.^[1]

Kentucky, officially the Commonwealth of Kentucky, is a state located in the east south-central region of the United States. Although styled as the "State of Kentucky" in the law creating it, (because in Kentucky's first constitution, the name state was used) Kentucky is one of four U.S. states constituted as a commonwealth. Originally a part of Virginia, in 1792 Kentucky split from it and became the 15th state to join the Union. Kentucky is the 37th most extensive and the 26th most populous of the 50 United States.

The Thoroughbred is a horse breed best known for its use in horse racing. Although the word thoroughbred is sometimes used to refer to any breed of purebred horse, it technically refers only to the Thoroughbred breed. Thoroughbreds are considered "hot-blooded" horses that are known for their agility, speed, and spirit.

Horse racing is an equestrian performance sport, typically involving two or more horses ridden by jockeys over a set distance for competition. It is one of the most ancient of all sports, as its basic premise – to identify which of two or more horses is the fastest over a set course or distance – has been unchanged since at least classical antiquity.

Early career

Roar Emotion was an early foal born in January 2000 in the state of Kentucky by breeder Brenda Jones. She was sold as a two-year-old in training at the Ocala Breeders' Sale in April 2002 to her owner H. Joseph Allen for only $37,000.

That fall she raced in several races in New York with mixed results. Then in the November, Roar Emotion stepped up in class and won the grade two Demoiselle Stakes at Aqueduct run over the dirt at one mile. In that race she beat a solid field of ten fillies in 1:51.43 over Savedbythelight and Feisty Step.

New York is a state in the Northeastern United States. New York was one of the original thirteen colonies that formed the United States. With an estimated 19.54 million residents in 2018, it is the fourth most populous state. In order to distinguish the state from the city with the same name, it is sometimes referred to as New York State.

The Demoiselle Stakes is a stakes race for thoroughbred horses open to two-year-old fillies who are willing to race the one and one-eighth miles on dirt. The Grade II event is run at Aqueduct Racetrack every November for a current purse of $300,000.

Three-year-old season

Roar Emotion showed promise early in March of her three-year-old year as she placed second in the grade three Cicada Stakes at seven furlongs at Aqueduct Racetrack. That race was won by Cyber Secret in a field of six as Boxer Girl finished third.

The Cicada Stakes is an American Thoroughbred horse race run annually in March at Aqueduct Racetrack in Queens, New York. Inaugurated in 1993, the Cicada Stakes was run at a distance of seven furlongs until 2006 when it was modified to six furlongs. It is a black type stakes race with a purse of $100,000 and has been a prep race to the Triple Tiara of Thoroughbred Racing, including the Kentucky Oaks, the Black-Eyed Susan Stakes and Mother Goose Stakes.

Aqueduct Racetrack is a Thoroughbred horse-racing facility and racino in the South Ozone Park and Jamaica neighborhoods of Queens, New York City. Its racing meets are usually from late October/early November through April. The racetrack is located adjacent to a casino called Resorts World New York City.

She was training so well that her connections decided to take a shot with her in the second jewel of America's de facto Filly Triple Crown, the Black-Eyed Susan Stakes. Roar Emotion was the third choice at 3-1 on the morning line in a strong field of eight other stakes winners. She broke alertly under jockey John R. Velazquez and set the pace two paths off the rail, with fractions of 23, 47, and 1:12 for the first six furlongs. Ivanavinalot and 57-1 longshot Blushing Valleys stalked the pace early. However, those two could not keep up by the top of the stretch. Santa Catarina, the 4-5 favorite was in fourth early, moved up turning for home gaining second, but was no match for the pacesetter. Longshot Fircroft at 13-1 came on strong from seventh picking up momentum with 3 furlongs left to run, but her late rally came up just 1/2 a length short, with Roar Emotion getting the win in gate-to-wire style in 1:52.33. That victory in the Preakness Friday feature was $200,000 grade two stakes race held at a rainswept Pimlico Race Course. It was 8-1/2 lengths back in third to Santa Catarina, the 4-5 favorite trained by Bob Baffert. Completing the order of finish were Ivanavinalot, Xtra Heart, Grace Bay, Blushing Valleys, and Lets Just Do It.

The Black-Eyed Susan Stakes is a Grade II American Thoroughbred horse race for three-year-old fillies run over a distance of 1 ¹⁄₈ miles on the dirt annually at Pimlico Race Course in Baltimore, Maryland. The event currently offers a purse of $250,000

John R. Velazquez is an American jockey in Thoroughbred horse racing. Born in Puerto Rico, where he began his career as a jockey, he came to the mainland US in 1990. In 2004 and 2005 he was the United States Champion Jockey by earnings and both years was given the Eclipse Award for Outstanding Jockey. He was inducted into the Horse Racing Hall of Fame in 2012, rode his 5,000th winner in 2013, and became the leading money-earning jockey in the history of the sport in 2014.

Pimlico Race Course is a thoroughbred horse racetrack in Baltimore, Maryland, most famous for hosting the Preakness Stakes. Its name is derived from the 1660s when English settlers named the area where the facility currently stands in honor of Olde Ben Pimlico's Tavern in London. The racetrack is nicknamed "Old Hilltop" after a small rise in the infield that became a favorite gathering place for thoroughbred trainers and race enthusiasts. It is currently owned by Maryland Jockey Club.

Four-year-old season

At age four, Roar Emotion started the year off in the winter in Florida. In February she was entered in a handicap race at Gulfstream Park for older mares and showed that she was very talented. In $100,000 grade three Sabin Handicap she took command at the top of the stretch and won going away in a field of nine. She beat Nosuch Bay and Lead Story in second and third respectively going a 1-1/16 miles. Roar Emotion, ridden again by John R. Velazquez and finished the race in 1:43.1 and paid $6.40 to win.

Gulfstream Park is a racetrack and county-approved casino in Hallandale Beach, Florida. During its annual meet, which spans December through October, it is one of the most important venues for horse racing in America.

Later in her 2004 season there were two other events in New York that Roar Emotion performed well down the lane and placed in graded stakes races. She had a strong second place showing in October in the Turn Back the Alarm Handicap at Aqueduct Racetrack at nine furlongs on turf. Roar Emotion pulled away from the field in the stretch but could not hold off the winner and lost that race by only a neck to Bobby Frankel's Personal Legend. She then finished the year in November in the grade two Top Flight Handicap in which she finished third to Daydreaming under Jerry Bailey. That race was at eight furlongs and was also at Aqueduct.

The Top Flight Invitational Stakes is an American Thoroughbred horse race run annually at Aqueduct Racetrack in Queens, New York. The Grade III event is run in the early spring and is open to fillies and mares, age three and older. It is contested over a distance of one and one sixteenth miles on the dirt and currently offers a purse of $200,000.

Jerry D. Bailey is an NBC Sports thoroughbred racing analyst and a retired American Hall of Fame jockey.

Retirement

In 2005 Roar Emotion was retired and purchased for $2.4 million at the Keeneland November sale. She was sold to Jess Jackson of Stonestreet Stable. In 2006 she had a foal by A.P. Indy.

Wistful was an American Thoroughbred racehorse. The daughter of Sun Again and granddaughter of Sun Teddy is best remembered for wins in the Kentucky Oaks, the Coaching Club American Oaks, the Black-Eyed Susan Stakes at Pimlico Race Course. In 1949, she was voted by the country's top sports writers as the American Champion Three-Year-Old Filly.

Soaring Softly was an American Thoroughbred racehorse whose biggest win came in the 1999 Breeders' Cup Filly & Mare Turf. She originally raced on dirt, with limited success. Switched to turf at age four, she won seven of eight starts and was named the American Champion Female Turf Horse.

Cleopatra was an American Champion Thoroughbred racehorse. The filly's sire was the one of Great Britain's top stallions Corcyra, a son of three-time the Leading sire in Great Britain and Ireland Polymelus. Her dam was Gallice, a daughter of Gallinule. Cleopatra is probably best remembered for her easy victory in the second running of the Black-Eyed Susan Stakes on May 17, 1920.

Perfect Shirl is a Thoroughbred racemare who won the 2011 Breeders' Cup Filly & Mare Turf in a 27-1 upset. She was foaled in the United States but her connections were Canadian.

Ma Biche was an American-bred, French-trained Thoroughbred racehorse and broodmare who won the classic 1000 Guineas at Newmarket Racecourse in 1983. The filly was the best racehorse of her age and sex in Europe in 1982 when she won two Group One races: the Prix Robert Papin in France and the Cheveley Park Stakes in England. In the following year he defeated a strong field to win the 1000 Guineas, but then suffered from a series of training problems before returning to form in autumn to win the Prix de la Forêt.

Eastern Fleet was an American Thoroughbred racehorse foaled on May 14, 1968. Bred by Calumet Farm and E. B. Benjamin, he was sired by Fleet Nasrullah and was a grandson of Nasrullah. He was out of a Bull Lea mare, Amoret. Eastern Fleet is best remembered for winning the grade 1 Florida Derby and finishing second in the $200,000 grade 1 Preakness Stakes to Canonero II.

Stopchargingmaria is an American Thoroughbred racehorse. The daughter of Tale of the Cat won the mile and an eighth Grade II $500,000 Black-Eyed Susan Stakes at Pimlico Race Course on May 16, 2014. and the Grade I 2014 Coaching Club American Oaks at Saratoga. In 2015 she won the Allaire duPont Distaff Stakes and the Shuvee Handicap before recording her biggest success in the Breeders' Cup Distaff. She is owned by Town and Country Farms and trained by Todd Pletcher.

Judy the Beauty is a Canadian-bred, American-trained Thoroughbred racehorse. Bred by Adena Springs in Ontario, she has been owned and trained throughout her racing career by Wesley Ward who bought her for $20,000 as a yearling. As a juvenile, she won her first three races before finishing second in the Spinaway Stakes. In a brief three-year-old season she finished second in all three of her races. In 2013 she established herself as one of the best female sprinters in North America, winning the Thoroughbred Club of America Stakes and finishing second to Groupie Doll in the Breeders' Cup Filly & Mare Sprint. She was even better at five, winning the Las Flores Handicap, Madison Stakes and Rancho Bernardo Handicap before ending her season with a win in the Breeders' Cup Filly & Mare Sprint. After her retirement, Judy the Beauty was inducted into the Canadian Horse Racing Hall of Fame in 2018.
