Robert Edmond Miller (born 24 January 1947 in Kingston, Jamaica) is a Jamaican diplomat, currently serving as Jamaica's High Commissioner to Abuja, Nigeria. [1]
Kingston is the capital and largest city of Jamaica, located on the southeastern coast of the island. It faces a natural harbour protected by the Palisadoes, a long sand spit which connects the town of Port Royal and the Norman Manley International Airport to the rest of the island. In the Americas, Kingston is the largest predominantly English-speaking city south of the United States.
A diplomat is a person appointed by a State or an intergovernamental institution such as the United Nations or the European Union to conduct diplomacy with one or more other States or international organizations. The main functions of diplomats are: representation and protection of the interests and nationals of the sending State; initiation and facilitation of strategic agreements; treaties and conventions; promotion of information; trade and commerce; technology; and friendly relations. Seasoned diplomats of international repute are used in international organizations as well as multinational companies for their experience in management and negotiating skills. Diplomats are members of foreign services and diplomatic corps of various nations of the world.
Miller has spent most of his career working as a Jamaican diplomat with postings in Brussels, Belgium, Lagos, Nigeria and to Cameroon. [2] Miller has worked as the Head of the Caricom Single Market and Economy (CSME) in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade in Kingston,Jamaica.

The foreign policy of Denmark is based on its identity as a sovereign state in Europe, the Arctic and the North Atlantic. Diplomatic relations between China and Jamaica were established on 21 November 1972. The Chinese government established an embassy in Kingston in 1973. There was no formal representation from Jamaica to China until 1992, when the Jamaican ambassador to Tokyo, Japan was accredited as a non-resident ambassador to Beijing. Jamaica later established a formal embassy in Beijing, and the current ambassador is Courtenay Rattray. The current Chinese ambassador to Jamaica is Chen Jinghua. In 2007, China announced it would provide technical training for more than 2,000 Jamaicans in 2008.
The 2010 Kingston unrest, dubbed locally as the Tivoli Incursion, was an armed conflict between the Shower Posse drug cartel and Jamaica's military and police forces in Kingston, the capital of Jamaica. The conflict began on 23 May 2010 as security forces began searching for major drug lord Christopher "Dudus" Coke, after the United States requested his extradition, and the leader of the criminal gang that attacked several police stations. The violence, which largely took place over 24–25 May, killed at least 73 civilians and wounded at least 35 others. Four soldiers/police were also killed and more than 500 arrests were made, as Jamaican police and soldiers fought gunmen in the Tivoli Gardens district of Kingston.
