Rotary Racer is a Greenpower team which began in 2005 as an initiative within Chipping Sodbury School to try to get 'Lads and Dads' working together on a project to build and race their own electric racing cars. The team has grown, with 9 different cars being built in the past 9 years. The team is made up of both girls and boys, ranging between the ages of 11 and 18.
The Greenpower Education Trust is a charitable organisation, whose objective is to inspire more young people to become engineers by presenting the engineering industry as an interesting and relevant career choice which could help to solve problems relating to the personal, social and emotional development of individuals and societies. The main idea is for teams of students between the ages of 9 and 25 to design, build, and race their own electric powered race cars on top racing circuits such as Goodwood.
Chipping Sodbury School is a coeducational foundation secondary school and sixth form, located in Chipping Sodbury in the English county of Gloucestershire.
The name Rotary Racer came from the team's first sponsor, Rotary International of Chipping Sodbury. This charity provided the funding needed to start the car from scratch and have continued to sponsor the team each season. Over the years, additional sponsors have enabled the team to continue racing as well as improve the car. The sponsors include:

It is a non-political and non-religious organization open to all people regardless of race, color, religion, gender, or political preference. Since 2005, the team has won the national championship (held at Goodwood Circuit or Rockingham Motor Speedway) five times out of the eight years.[ citation needed ]
Goodwood Circuit is a historic venue for both two- and four-wheeled motorsport in the United Kingdom. The 3.8 kilometres (2.4 mi) circuit is situated near Chichester, West Sussex, close to the south coast of England, on the estate of Goodwood House, and completely encircles Chichester/Goodwood Airport. This is the racing circuit dating from 1948, not to be confused with the separate hillclimb course located at Goodwood House and first used in 1936.
Rockingham Motor Speedway is a former motorsport venue in the United Kingdom, that hosted corporate driving days, driver training, conferencing and exhibitions, vehicle manufacturing events, track days, testing, driving experiences and motor racing. It claims to be Europe's fastest racing circuit, and was the first banked oval constructed in Britain since the closure of Brooklands in 1939. The venue hosted its last day of racing in November 2018 after being sold by its owners and will be redeveloped to become a logistics hub for the car industry.

Rotary Racer takes part in the two 1-hour endurance races (F24) and the F24+ race (for sixth formers).
