The franchise was originally launched on January 15, 2008, focusing on animals named after jewels, birthstones and minerals, who can use magic using their eyes.

The series was written by Atsushi Maekawa with direction from Nanako Sasaki, screenplay by Takashi Yamada, and produced by Kazuya Watanabe with character designs from Tomoko Miyakawa. It aired on TV Osaka and TV Tokyo from 5 April 2009 to 26 March 2010, replacing Onegai My Melody Kirara★ in its initial timeslot.

A-Jax was a South Korean boy band formed by DSP Media in 2012. Early in their career, the group was known as DSP Boyz but then was changed to A-Jax. The group's final lineup was composed of five members: Hyeongkon, Yunyoung, Seungjin, Seungyeop, and Junghee. They made the first appearance on TV as a group on MBC Music's Making the Star – DSP Boyz on April 24, 2012. The group made its official debut with the single "One 4 U" in South Korea on June 1 and in Japan on August 8, 2012 with the same song.
E-girls was a Japanese collective girl group created and managed by LDH while signed to music label Rhythm Zone from Avex. As of 2017, the band consisted of 11 members; 8 of which featured members of groups Happiness and Flower. Created as a sister act to boy band Exile, E-girls debuted in 2011 with their single "Celebration". After a string of promotional recordings, E-girls released their debut record Lesson 1 two years later. The record was promoted as a commemorative album for the duo's tenth debut anniversary, which fell on December 26, 2013. Tense consists of modern R&B and pop songs with components of neo-soul. Its lead single, "Something", also has elements of swing jazz with big band arrangements. Lyrically, the album references the concepts of love, courage and hope.
Lady Jewelpet is a Japanese anime television series animated by Studio Comet and Zexcs. It is the 6th installment in the Jewelpet anime franchise based on the characters jointly created by Sanrio and Sega Toys. It was written by Natsuko Takahashi (07-Ghost) and directed by Itsuro Kawasaki. Original character designs were done by Arco Wada (Fate/Extra), while the designs for the Jewelpets, like the previous five seasons before it, are done by Tomoko Miyakawa. It aired on all TXN stations in Japan from April 5, 2014 to March 28, 2015, replacing Jewelpet Happiness in its initial time slot. Lady Jewelpet aired as part of the franchise's 5th anniversary on television and is also the only installment to be officially handled by Zexcs.
Generations from Exile Tribe is a seven-member Japanese dance and vocal group formed and managed by LDH. The group is part of the "Exile Tribe" collective related to Exile and is signed to the record label Rhythm Zone from the Avex Group. Generations debuted on 21 November 2012.
