Early Life & Inspiration
S.Rajakumar Born on 16 March 1968 in Vaitheeswarankoil, Sirkazhi Taluk, Thanjavur District, He comes from a proud lineage of freedom fighters and Congress loyalists who followed the path of Mahatma Gandhi and Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru. Their legacy of service shaped his values of discipline, community service, and national commitment.
Education & Academic Honours
S.Rajakumar holds a Master’s degree in Public Administration, a Bachelor’s degree in Law, and an Honorary Doctorate (D.Litt.) conferred by Great Kings University, Honolulu, USA (2017) - recognizing his contributions to public service and leadership.
The Beginning of a Political Journey
In 1988, while assisting his father during Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi’s visit to Vaitheeswarankoil, Dr.S.Rajakumar met Shri. Mani Shankar IYER a mentorship that shaped his Political path and led to long-term collaboration in public and constituency service.
Growth in the Indian National Congress
From student politics to senior leadership, Dr.S.Rajakumar raised steadily through the Congress ranks:
• 1991–1997 Active in NSUI and Youth Congress rose to State Vice President, later General Secretary, for Tamil Nadu Youth Congress.
• 1998 Appointed State Secretary, Tamil Nadu Congress Committee the youngest since Perunthalaivar K. Kamaraj.
• 1998 Onwards Member of the All India Congress Committee.
• Served as AICC Observer for several North Eastern states - Manipur (2001), Tripura (2002), and Nagaland (2003).
• 2013 - 2017 General Secretary, Tamil Nadu Congress Committee.
• 2017 Onwards District Congress President, first for Nagapattinam North, district and at present for Mayiladuthurai District.
• 2023 Observer for the Bharat Jodo Yatra and for Karnataka Assembly Elections.
• 2024 Observer for the Wayanad Parliamentary By-election.
Electoral Leadership
Dr.S.Rajakumar has represented the Mayiladuthurai Assembly Constituency with distinction:
• 2001 Contested from Triplicane (AIADMK alliance) - narrow defeat.
• 2006 Won Mayiladuthurai seat (DMK alliance).
• 2011 defeat by least vote (DMK alliance).
• 2021 Won again from Mayiladuthurai (DMK alliance).
Legislative Committees
Served as member of House Committee, Privileges Committee, Estimates Committee.
Educational service experience
Member - Senate Annamalai University Chidambaram, and Member - Court Central University of Tiruvarur.
National Responsibilities & Public Service
• Served as Additional Private Secretary to Thiru. Mani Shankar Aiyar,Union Minister for Petroleum, Youth Affairs & Sports, Development of North Eastern Region, and Panchayati Raj.
•Board of Governor, Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan (NYKS) Participated in international youth and leadership delegation as
represented India abroad.
Relief & Social Welfare Work
A hallmark of Dr.S.Rajakumar’s career has been his compassionate and hands - on approach during crises:
• Coordinated relief and rehabilitation during the 2004 Kumbakonam school fire tragedy and the 2004 Tsunami.
• Worked with central, state, and international agencies to restore normalcy.
• Invited by the American Jewish Committee (AJC) to visit Israel to share his experience in disaster response.
Election Management & Campaign Experience
Dr.S.Rajakumar is a seasoned election strategist and campaign manager with over three decades of experience. Serving as the point’s man for Thiru. Mani Shankar IYER since 1991, and managed constituency - level operations and coordinated election logistics across multiple cycles.
Worked closely with major alliance partners - AIADMK (1991, 1996, and 1999) and DMK (2004, 2009) and played an active role in seven parliamentary campaigns almost thirty years, (3 Decades) for Mani Shankar IYER And Dr.S.Rajakumar himself contested four times from 2001 - 2021 for assembly election and elected twice. And S.Rajakumar had vast experience in the election management from 1991 to 2021 he had managed 7 parliament elections and he himself contested 4 assembly elections totally 11 elections experience for the past three decades.
Also he had developed deep voter outreach systems, mobilisations, and executed plenty of local development projects for Mayiladuthurai Parliament and Assembly constituencies.
