Oluwaponmile Salako (born 13 November 1991) better known by the stage name SLK is a Nigerian stand-up comedian, actor and compere. [1] He started comedy professionally in December 2009 and is also known for the funny character "Boda Wasiu". In May 2023, he debuted his comedy titled "Teetotaler" on Netflix. [2] [3]
Salako was born on 13 November 1991 in Lagos State but originally hails from Sagamu, Ogun State, Nigeria. He had his primary education at Carol Nursery and Primary School, Ikeja, Lagos and his Secondary education at Dansol High School, Ikeja, Lagos. [4]
Salako started stage acting at the age of eight but officially started his career in 2009. At the age of nine, he featured in the Nollywood movie "Onibukun". In 2013, he started posting short skits on social media platforms like Instagram [5] and Facebook.
In 2016, Salako introduced the skit-character "Boda Wasiu", where he hilariously calls out famous people while addressing social issues. [6]
His first standup comedy special "Thank God I'm Funny (TGIF)" was a live show which held on 23 November 2018. [7] The live show featured guest appearances from other comedians like Bovi, Alibaba Akpobome and Basketmouth. It premiered in cinemas on 26 July, 2019 becoming the first ever comedy to be shown in cinemas in Nigeria. In 2019, his film "Change: The Legend of the Street" was nominated for Moët & Chandon short film award. [8]
In April 2023, he announced the debut of his second comedy special "Teetotaler" on Netflix. [9] [10] The comedy addressed a myriad of socio-cultural issues in Africa like rape, politics and monarchy. [11] [12]
He has featured in several movies including "It's Her Day", "Becoming Abi" and "Daluchi".
