Bal Keshav Thackeray,also known as Balasaheb Thackeray,was an Indian cartoonist and politician who founded the Shiv Sena,a right-wing pro-Marathi and Hindu nationalist party active mainly in the state of Maharashtra.

The 2008 attacks on Uttar Pradeshi and Bihari migrants in Maharashtra began on 3 February 2008 after violent clashes between workers of two political parties—Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) and Samajwadi Party (SP)—at Dadar in Mumbai,capital of the Indian state of Maharashtra. The clashes took place when workers of MNS,a splinter faction formed out of the Shiv Sena,tried to attack workers of SP,the regional party based in Uttar Pradesh,who were proceeding to attend a rally organised by the United National Progressive Alliance (UNPA). He disapproved Congress throwing itself in Khilafat Movement and warned against excessive wooing of Muslims at the cost of national interests. He regarded unity at any price as elusive and dangerous. Since the best safeguard for the minority was the goodwill of the majority. He never permitted his critical faculties to be blurred by emotion. Mahatma Gandhi admiring his calm logic,confided in him and often sought his counsel. He was chosen to arbitrate the disputes between Subhash Chandra Bose and Jatindra Mohan Sengupta. He was never a breaker or a destroyer but was always a cementing factor believing in synthesis and not in segregation.

Although a parliamentary democracy,Indian politics has increasingly become dynastic,possibly due to the absence of a party organization,independent civil society associations that mobilize support for the party,and centralized financing of elections. Family members have also led the Congress party for most of the period since 1978 when Indira Gandhi floated the then Congress(I) faction of the party. It also is fairly common in many political parties in Maharashtra. The dynastic phenomenon is seen from national level down to district level and even village level.The three-tier structure of Panchayati Raj established in the 1960s also helped to create and consolidate the dynastic phenomenon in rural areas. Apart from government,political families also control cooperative institutions,mainly cooperative sugar factories,district cooperative banks in the state,and since the 1980s private for profit colleges. The ruling Bharatiya Janata Party also features several senior leaders who are dynasts. In Maharashtra,the NCP has particularly high level of dynasticism.
Eknath Sambhaji Shinde is an Indian politician who is serving as the 20th and current Chief Minister of Maharashtra since 30 June 2022. He is also serving as the Leader of Shiv Sena since February 2023 and the Leader of the House,Maharashtra Legislative Assembly since July 2022. He is also the Member of Legislative Assembly for the Kopri-Pachpakhadi constituency of Thane,Maharashtra since 2009 and was formerly the MLA of Thane constituency from 2004 to 2009.

He represented Yavatmal constituency,which is in the state of Maharashtra,in Lok Sabha,as a member of Indian National Congress,from 1980 to 1996,and 1998 to 2004,winning six elections in that span. He did not contest the 1996 Lok Sabha election. In 2004 elections,he was defeated by Harisingh Rathod of BJP.In November 2011,he quit Congress,complaining that his supporters were getting sidelined,and joined NCP. He died four months later.
