Tennevoll is located at the end of the Lavangen fjord, along the river Spansdalselva, which flows through the Spansdalen valley. The 632-metre (2,073 ft) tall mountain Reinbergen sits just to the east of the village.

Astafjorden (Norwegian) or Ástavierda (Northern Sami) is a fjord in Troms county, Norway. It flows through the municipalities of Salangen, Gratangen, Ibestad, and Tjeldsund. The 30-kilometre (19 mi) long fjord flows from the Salangen fjord in the east to the Vågsfjorden in the west. The 3.5-kilometre (2.2 mi) wide fjord separates the islands of Andørja and Rolla from the mainland. There are several small fjords that branch off this fjord including: Lavangen, Gratangen, Grovfjorden, and Salangen.

Lavangen (Norwegian) or Loabákvuotna (Northern Sami) is a fjord in Lavangen Municipality and Salangen Municipality in Troms county, Norway. The majority of the fjord is in Lavangen Municipality. The 17-kilometre (11 mi) long fjord flows to the northwest and empties into the larger Astafjorden. The deepest point in the fjord reaches about 202 metres (663 ft) below sea level. The village of Tennevoll lies at the end of the fjord and the village of Å lies on the northern shore.

The 18-kilometre (11 mi) fjord flows to the northeast from the Astafjorden and then turns to the southeast until it reaches the village of Sjøvegan at the head of the fjord. The innermost part of the fjord is also named the Sagfjorden.

Salangsverket is a village and industrial site in Salangen Municipality in Troms county, Norway. It was founded to support mining operations in the early 1900s, and is located at the northern shore of the Salangen fjord, about 6 kilometres (3.7 mi) northwest of the village of Sjøvegan.

Salangen Airport, Elvenes is a general aviation airport located at Elvenes in Salangen Municipality in Troms county, Norway. It features a grass runway measuring 800 by 80 meters. It also has a water airport located on Øvrevann. The municipal airport is solely used for air sports.

It was the largest county by area in Norway, encompassing about 75,000 square kilometres (29,000 sq mi), and was formed by the merger of the former Finnmark and Troms counties in addition to Tjeldsund Municipality from Nordland county.
