The speaker of the Parliament of Finland, along with two deputy speakers, is elected by Parliament during the first plenary session each year. Speakers are chosen for a year at a time. In addition to their preparing the work in plenary sessions the speakers also play a key role in Parliament's international co-operation, which includes visits by speakers and international delegations as well as participation in numerous interparliamentary organisations.
Johan (Juho) Rikkonen was a Finnish bricklayer and politician. He was a member of the Parliament of Finland from 1916 to 1918, representing the Social Democratic Party of Finland (SDP). In 1918, during the Finnish Civil War, he sided with the Reds. He was made prisoner by White troops and shot in Viipuri in May 1918.
Helena Elisabet Brander was a Finnish teacher of handicraft, school director and politician. She was a member of the Parliament of Finland, representing the Young Finnish Party from May to December 1918 and the National Progressive Party from December 1918 to March 1919. She was born in Kitee, the younger sister of Augusta Laine and Uuno Brander and the elder sister of Akseli Brander.
Petter (Pekka) Wilhelm Heikkinen was a Finnish farmer and politician. He served as Minister of Trade and Industry from 17 December 1927 to 22 December 1928 and from 16 August 1929 to 4 July 1930, as Deputy Minister of Agriculture from 21 March 1931 to 14 December 1932 and as Minister of Agriculture from 7 October 1936 to 15 August 1940. He was a member of the Parliament of Finland from 1919 to 1922 and from 1924 to 1940, representing the Agrarian League. He served as the chairman of the Agrarian League from 1919 to 1940 and as Governor of Kuopio Province from 1940 to 1950.

He was born in Ylitornio, and was a member of the Diet of Finland from 1894 to 1906 and of the Parliament of Finland from 1907 to 1916 and again from 1917 to 1919. He represented the Young Finnish Party until 1918 and the National Coalition Party from 1918 to 1919.
Hedvig Maria Gebhard was a Finnish journalist and politician. She was a member of the Parliament of Finland, representing the Finnish Party from 1907 to 1909 and the National Coalition Party from 1919 to 1922 and again from 1924 to 1929. In 1922 she founded Kotiliesi, a family magazine.

He was the candidate of the SKDL in the presidential elections of 1956, getting 18.7% of the vote. He was married to Sylvi-Kyllikki Kilpi.
