Harenkarspel is a former municipality in the Netherlands, in the province of North Holland and the region of West-Frisia. The main town of Harenkarspel was Tuitjenhorn. In 2013, Harenkarspel merged with Schagen and Zijpe into a new municipality, which is called Schagen.

Callantsoog was a separate municipality until 1990, when it was merged with Zijpe. Since 1990, the area of Callantsoog had made part of the municipalities of Zijpe, Den Helder, and Anna Paulowna. In 2012, Anna Paulowna has become part of the new municipality of Hollands Kroon, and in 2013, Zijpe merged with Schagen into the new municipality of Schagen. For that reason the area of Callantsoog has made part of the municipalities of Schagen, Den Helder and Hollands Kroon since 2013.

He was the first mayor of Kwadijk, Middelie, and Warder to actually live in one of those villages. As a popular mayor of Schagen, he handled a double murder case that drew national media attention and advanced a professional school and regional light rail and canals. In Alblasserdam, he addressed the local impacts of World War I. Berman is also known for his association with Christian anarchism.
