Schreibkraft is an Austrian literary magazine, which was founded in 1998 by the Literature Council of the Forum Stadtpark in Graz (Styria). The magazine prints feature articles. Since 1999 the edition schreibkraft is the publisher. Schreibkraft appears twice a year.
Graz is the capital of Styria and the second-largest city in Austria after Vienna. On 1 January 2018, it had a population of 325,021. In 2015, the population of the Graz larger urban zone who had principal residence status stood at 633,168.
Styria is a state, or Bundesland, located in the southeast of Austria. In area it is the second largest of the nine Austrian federated states, covering 16,401 km2 (6,332 sq mi). It borders Slovenia and the Austrian states of Upper Austria, Lower Austria, Salzburg, Burgenland, and Carinthia. The capital city is Graz which had 276,526 inhabitants at the beginning of 2015.

Every issue has a specific topic. The essays and feature articles are chosen by the five editors (Hermann Götz, Robert Hutter, Hannes Luxbacher, Andreas R. Peternell, Werner Schandor). In addition, the magazine publishes some narrative texts and book reviews; the latter review primarily books from small publishing houses.
An essay is, generally, a piece of writing that gives the author's own argument — but the definition is vague, overlapping with those of a paper, an article, a pamphlet, and a short story. Essays have traditionally been sub-classified as formal and informal. Formal essays are characterized by "serious purpose, dignity, logical organization, length," whereas the informal essay is characterized by "the personal element, humor, graceful style, rambling structure, unconventionality or novelty of theme," etc.
A feature story is a piece of non-fiction writing about news. A feature story is a type of soft news. The main sub-types are the news feature and the human-interest story.

Bettina Balàka is an award-winning Austrian novelist, poet, essayist, playwright and short story writer. Recent novels include Eisflüstern, Kassiopeia (2010) and Unter Menschen.
