Seafarers' Memorial is situated at the center of the Bangladesh Marine Academy campus. It is a memorial to all the Bangladesh Marine Academy cadets who lost their life at sea. International Maritime Organization (IMO) Secretary-General Efthimios E. Mitropoulos unveiled the memorial on 13 January 2011. [1]

The Bangladesh Marine Academy is a maritime training institution in Chittagong, Bangladesh. This academy provide theoretical and practical training to cadet, deck officer and marine engineer for merchant ship. It is the only university of its kind in the country and was established in 1962. The academy is situated overlooking the Bay of Bengal from the hill tops of Juldia on the east bank of the Karnafuli River, about 20 kilometres south of the Chittagong city.

The International Maritime Organization (IMO), known as the Inter-Governmental Maritime Consultative Organization (IMCO) until 1982, is a specialised agency of the United Nations responsible for regulating shipping. The IMO was established following agreement at a UN conference held in Geneva in 1948 and the IMO came into existence ten years later, meeting for the first time in 1959. Headquartered in London, United Kingdom, the IMO currently has 174 member states and three associate members.
