Season were an English rock band from Birmingham.
After the band had their first show booked for 14 December 1998 (Matt's 18th birthday, by coincidence) they had no name to promote the show with. Looking into his college bag, Matt pulled out a CD by Northern Irish rockers 'Ash', called 'Trailer'. The first track on it was called Season. They also used the font for the band logo. Before deciding on this name, they flirted with names such as: Bomb (a Bush song from their album Sixteen Stone ), Flirt, Anavrin ('Nirvana' backwards).
Matt and Gary Steeles met in school in 1996, with a keen common interest in Nirvana, they began to hang out and talk about how cool it would be to be in a band. They started 'Anavrin' just before their exams in 1997, with Gary teaching Matt how to play the guitar, and Gary taking up bass. Later in 1997, mutual school friend Simon Hartland joined on guitar - he being the person who had gotten Matt into rock music over the previous couple of years. The three looked for a drummer, and eventually did two gigs with session drummer Paul Wall.
In 1999 Simon announced that he would be leaving Birmingham to study in Nottingham. Matt and Gary were to continue with Season, and very quickly found a drummer, Steve Dale, to complete the three piece.
The mid/end of 1999 saw Season doing regular rehearsals for the first time, as they now had a complete lineup for the first time. Several demos were recorded, and gigs were arranged for 2000/2001.
In August 2001, Season had their first headline show arranged at the band's favourite venue, The Flapper (& Firkin), only for Steve to pull out of the gig with only a few days notice. A friend of Matt's was in a band and was sure his drummer would fill in, to avoid cancelling the show. The new drummer was a step in the right direction, professional and easily the best musician in the band. Matt and Gary agreed wanted him on a permanent basis. After a few nights out, Matt finally asked Steve Cooper to become a full-time member of Season.
The band gigged heavily and recorded many demos, which led to the 'Disillusion' demo compilation release. Many record labels showed a passing interest in the band, but nothing more.
Towards the end of 2002, Season gigged with 'Katies Ego', and loved the style and energy of guitarist Bren O'Mahony. The band struck up a friendship with Bren, and later it was agreed he should join Season. Talk of a second guitarist had been ongoing throughout 2002.
In 2003, the now four-piece Season released a demo EP 'Nothing Doing', and continued to gig constantly around the UK.
In 2005, 'Incubator Records' - a project record label based at a Birmingham College, approached Season to sign with them. The band would have unlimited access to free professional studio time, and a team of industry experts at their call. Soon after the first recording session for new album 'Bromide', Gary Steeles emailed the band to say he was quitting.
Recording sessions for 'Bromide' continued, whilst the band auditioned new bass players. Nuno Lourenço was soon the newest member of 'Season'. Again, his professionalism and knowledge pushed the band further and harder than ever before.
Season were hopeful of a succession of large local support slots after their manager, Matt Aiello, also became the general manager/promoter of the Birmingham Barfly when it opened in 2006. Season were first support on the opening night, the first band to ever play Birmingham Barfly, supporting Engercia and Reuben - who had used the night as a release party for their second album, Very Fast, Very Dangerous.
Unfortunately, soon after Matt Aiello left the Barfly and severed ties with Season, leaving the band looking at different ways of promoting themselves.
'Bromide' was finally released in 2006, by which time Incubator Records was being wound up, with no support on the release, the album had a few semi-promising reviews and was mainly sold at gigs and from the band's website.
The turn of 2006/2007 saw Bren leave Season; a combination of frustrations with the musical style / direction of the band, and Matt's frustrations with the whole Season 'apathy' that saw Matt start up a side project (Certo Sermo).
David Patterson joined Season at the start of 2007, and toured 'Bromide' with the band. With Dave's recording knowledge, Season set upon building their own recording studio in the centre of Birmingham, which is where 'Turn The Corner' was written, rehearsed and recorded.
The band continued to gig consistently around the UK, whilst recording the album, but this led to slow work on the much needed new CD. Matt's frustrations led to him refusing to gig until the album was finished. This meant Season played very few shows for 18 months whilst they worked on the album. Turn The Corner was finally finished at the end of 2008, but by this time Matt had already grown impatient and tired of the general apathy for Season within the band.
The last show to date was March 2009, supporting Bren's new band The Lowlifes at Edwards No. 8.
Season had rehearsed an album worth of new material for several months, even gigging much of it, whilst they waited for Turn The Corner to be completed. There has been speculative talk about this material being recorded by the band, but it seems more likely that Matt will release these songs under his solo project, possibly all on one CD.
Matt started writing for a new band towards the end of 2008, which at the start of 2009 led to him forming 'Lonestate'. More frustrations within the new band set up have led to Matt pursuing a solo career.
English band Bush and the singer Gavin Rossdale had a huge effect on Matt in the mid-1990s, the song "Little Things" is claimed to be the only reason Matt originally wanted to buy a guitar.
Scottish band Biffy Clyro soon became Matt's favorite band in 2002 after the release of their debut album Blackend Sky, and Matt started to write songs in a mix of his two favorite band's styles.
This sound and style was carried through all of Season's releases.

Nirvana was an American rock band formed in Aberdeen, Washington, in 1987. Founded by lead singer and guitarist Kurt Cobain and bassist Krist Novoselic, the band went through a succession of drummers, most notably Chad Channing, before recruiting Dave Grohl in 1990. Nirvana's success popularized alternative rock, and they were often referenced as the figurehead band of Generation X. Their music maintains a popular following and continues to influence modern rock culture.
Screaming Trees was an American rock band formed in Ellensburg, Washington, in 1984 by vocalist Mark Lanegan, guitarist Gary Lee Conner, bass player Van Conner, and drummer Mark Pickerel. Pickerel had been replaced by Barrett Martin by the time the band reached its most successful period. Although widely associated with grunge, the band's sound incorporated hard rock and psychedelic elements. The band released seven studio albums, five EPs, and three compilations.
Tubeway Army were a London-based new wave band led by lead singer Gary Numan. Formed at the height of punk rock in 1977 the band gradually changed to an electronic sound. They were the first band of the electronic era to have a synthesiser-based number-one hit, with their single "Are 'Friends' Electric?" and its parent album Replicas both topping the UK charts in mid-1979. After its release, Numan opted to drop the Tubeway Army name and release music under his own name as he was the sole songwriter, producer and public face of the band, but he retained the musicians from Tubeway Army as his backing band.
Chad Channing is an American musician who is best known as the drummer of the grunge band Nirvana from 1988 until 1990, during which time they recorded and released their debut album Bleach and appears on "Polly" in the follow-up album Nevermind. He currently sings and plays bass in the band Before Cars.
Hollywood Rose was an American glam metal group formed in 1983. They are best known as the precursor for what would eventually become Guns N' Roses. The group was founded by Axl Rose, Izzy Stradlin and Chris Weber, while they were aided during live shows by Rick Mars, Johnny Kreis, Steve Darrow and Andre Troxx. Rose, Stradlin and Weber, along with Kreis, recorded a five-song demo in 1984. However, after a number of lineup changes, which includes Weber and Kreis being replaced by Slash and Steven Adler as well the departure of Stradlin, the group disbanded the same year.
With the Lights Out is a box set by the American rock band Nirvana released in November 2004. It contains three CDs and one DVD of previously rare or unreleased material, including B-sides, demos, and rehearsal and live recordings. The title comes from the lyrics from Nirvana's 1991 single "Smells Like Teen Spirit". The box set was planned for release in 2001, but was delayed by a legal battle with Courtney Love, the widow of Nirvana singer Kurt Cobain. As of 2016, With the Lights Out had sold 546,000 copies in the US.
Dale Crover is an American rock musician. Crover is best known as the drummer for Melvins and has also been the drummer for Men of Porn, Shrinebuilder, Crystal Fairy and, for a brief time, Nirvana. He is also guitarist and vocalist for Altamont. He has toured with Fantômas, Off!, and Redd Kross. In 2016, Rolling Stone listed him as the 69th greatest drummer of all time.
Esoteric is an English funeral doom metal band from Birmingham founded in 1992. Releasing seven studio albums, and a demo, the band is widely regarded as among the first groups to develop the funeral doom style. The band has named a variety of groups as influences, such as metal bands Morbid Angel and My Dying Bride, more "trippy" artists such as Pink Floyd, Spacemen 3, and King Crimson, and the industrial and dark ambient genres.
Buck-O-Nine is an American ska punk band which was formed in San Diego in 1991. The band has toured internationally and released several albums and EPs, as well as appearing on compilations and film soundtracks. During the mid-to-late 1990s, they experienced mainstream success with the release of the album Twenty-Eight Teeth and its most successful single, "My Town". As the popularity of third-wave ska waned, Buck-O-Nine stopped touring full-time in 2000, but continues to perform regularly throughout California and much of the Southwestern United States. Since 2001, the band has also performed in Japan, the UK, Canada, Mexico and Hawaii.
Kerbdog were an alternative metal band from Kilkenny, Ireland, formed in 1991. Following two albums released on Mercury Records, the band split up in 1998. Since 2005, they have reformed for a series of occasional one-off performances. In 2012, a live album entitled Congregation was recorded and released in October 2014.
Samson were a British heavy metal band formed in 1977 by guitarist and vocalist Paul Samson. They are best known for their first three albums with future Iron Maiden singer Bruce Dickinson, then known as "Bruce Bruce", and drummer Thunderstick, who wore a leather mask and performed on stage in a metal cage. Drummer Clive Burr was also a member of the band, both before and after his tenure with Iron Maiden. Drummer Mel Gaynor had a successful music career being a member of Simple Minds for over 20 years. Dickinson's replacement on vocals, Nicky Moore, performed with Samson throughout the mid-1980s and again from the late 1990s onwards. Samson were a part of the New Wave of British Heavy Metal.
Fecal Matter was a short-lived punk rock band from Aberdeen, Washington. The group was formed in 1985 by Kurt Cobain, the future frontman of Nirvana, along with Dale Crover of the Melvins and drummer Greg Hokanson. Hokanson was removed from the band over his penchant for Schmidt beer and mini thins or "witch speed", and his ensuing negative attitude. Melvins members Buzz Osborne and Mike Dillard appeared in a later version of the band during rehearsals the following year.
Beyond Good and Evil is the seventh studio album by English rock band The Cult. Released in 2001, it marked their first new recording in six and a half years. The record debuted at No. 37 on the charts in the United States, No. 22 in Canada, No. 25 in Spain.
Ashen Mortality were a British doom metal band formed in 1993 by Ian Arkley and Melanie Bolton. They and Paramaecium are among the best known Christian doom metal bands, though they were always wary of being typecast as such. They recorded two demos, and two albums, and played many gigs in England, the Netherlands and Germany. Featuring clean and growled male vocals, and female vocals, their music was heavy, slow to mid-paced, and influenced by medieval music, doom, death and goth. The band split up in 2005, when Arkley went on to form My Silent Wake.
Azaghal is a Finnish black metal band, currently signed to Moribund Records. They were established in 1995.

The Nirvana bootleg recordings are a number of audio CD recordings of musical performances by the American rock band Nirvana, which were previously not officially released by the band, or under any other legal authority. The recordings consist of both live performances and outtakes from studio sessions unavailable as a legal release.

Cud are an English indie rock band formed in Leeds in 1987. The original line-up included vocalist Carl Puttnam, guitarist/keyboardist Mike Dunphy, bassist William Potter and drummer Steve Goodwin.
Reign of Fury are a British thrash metal band who are based predominantly in South West England and The Midlands. Their signature sound is a blend of 1980s thrash metal and NWOBHM, as well as various influences from other styles of metal and punk. The members are an amalgamation of friends that have met over the past 15 years on the UK punk and metal scene. Reign of Fury was formed to celebrate the types of music that provided the most significant influences to the members throughout their lives.
