Sedition

Sedition was an anarcho punk/hardcore band based in Northampton, England, active from 1983 through 1987. Cassette and MP3 bootlegs of demos and live performances exist, but their only official release was on a cassette-only various artists compilation put out by Cold Spring Records. This was the label's first release, and its cover is displayed on the label's webpage. The cassette also featured bands such as Psychic TV, Bruise, Charlie Don't Surf, and Venus Flytrap.

Hardcore punk Subgenre of punk rock

Hardcore punk is a punk rock music genre and subculture that originated in the late 1970s. It is generally faster, harder, and more aggressive than other forms of punk rock. Its roots can be traced to earlier punk scenes in San Francisco and Southern California which arose as a reaction against the still predominant hippie cultural climate of the time. It was also inspired by New York punk rock and early proto-punk. New York punk had a harder-edged sound than its San Francisco counterpart, featuring anti-art expressions of masculine anger, energy, and subversive humor. Hardcore punk generally disavows commercialism, the established music industry and "anything similar to the characteristics of mainstream rock" and often addresses social and political topics with "confrontational, politically-charged lyrics."

England Country in north-west Europe, part of the United Kingdom

England is a country that is part of the United Kingdom. It shares land borders with Wales to the west and Scotland to the north-northwest. The Irish Sea lies west of England and the Celtic Sea lies to the southwest. England is separated from continental Europe by the North Sea to the east and the English Channel to the south. The country covers five-eighths of the island of Great Britain, which lies in the North Atlantic, and includes over 100 smaller islands, such as the Isles of Scilly and the Isle of Wight.

The band started off influenced and involved with the anarcho punk scene, and played shows with bands such as Antisect, Conflict, Smart Pils, Dirt, No Defences, Annie Anxiety, Karma Sutra, and Deviated Instinct. They were also initially influenced by underground music and hardcore bands, and they managed to play shows with Government Issue, Lärm, and British hardcore band AYS. Later, this interest led to a sound that was slower and generally instrumental. It is this sound, with a three-piece lineup, that can be heard on the demo 60 Miles by Road or Rail. Earache Records intended to release two of the tracks from the demo on a compilation LP, but the project was later shelved. A track from this demo, "Pink Hendrix Hairdryer", was featured on the Cold Spring Records compilation.

Conflict (band) British anarcho-punk band

Conflict is an English anarcho-punk band originally based in Eltham in South London. Formed in 1981, the band's original line up consisted of: Colin Jerwood (vocals), Francisco 'Paco' Carreno (drums), Big John, Steve (guitars), Pauline (vocals), Paul a.k.a. 'Nihilistic Nobody' (visuals). Their first release was the EP "The House That Man Built" on Crass Records. By the time they released their first album, It's Time to See Who's Who, on Corpus Christi Records, Pauline and Paul had left the band. Conflict later set up its own Mortarhate Records label, which put out releases by other artists including Hagar the Womb, Icons of Filth, Lost Cherrees, The Apostles, Exitstance, Stalag 17, Admit You're Shit and Potential Threat.

DIRT were an anarcho-punk band from London, UK. Initially formed in 1980, the band frequently played with fellow anarchists Crass, before releasing their first EP, Object, Refuse, Reject, Abuse on the Crass Records label. Their second release, Never Mind Dirt, Here's the Bollocks, also on the Crass label, was a live LP released in 1983. The band went into a brief hiatus after 1982 when they took to the road again and recorded the Just An Error album, after which they split in 1986.

There were three constant members of the band: Greg Bull on guitar, Alan Smith on bass, and Mark Davess on drums. There were four vocalists who came and went through their period of activity. These people were Salena Shakti Radford who was the original vocalist, in fact she created the band and also the band name, Simon Trikula, who often did vocals along with Salena who had invited him into the band, Lorna Simpson, and Tim Andrews. Tim Andrews was recruited by Antisect, and stayed with them until their disbandment.

Mark Davess was later in Charlie Don't Surf, acoustic band Buggy Chillum and a Moscow-based punk band called Species.
