The Shoalhaven Tigers are a local basketball association based on the New South Wales south coast. Teams currently compete in the New South Wales State Basketball League, Southern Junior Leagues, NSW Country Championships and Barrengarry Conference. Despite being a small association in numbers, the Tigers have produced several players who have played NCAA, NBL and WNBL. Some of these players have also represented Australia at various junior levels and higher.
2008 marked the 50th anniversary of basketball in the Shoalhaven. Originally played on outdoor courts at Nowra High School and in disused aircraft hangars at HMAS Albatross, basketball has been a major sport in the region for many years. The Tigers have consistently played above expectations, and in 2007 the State League Women's team completed a perfect season winning the New South Wales State Basketball League championship 17-0.
Andrew Barry Casson Gaze, is an Australian former professional basketball player and coach. He played 22 seasons in the National Basketball League (NBL) with the Melbourne Tigers from 1984 to 2005, winning the league's MVP award seven times and winning the scoring title 14 times. He also guided the Tigers to two NBL championships, in 1993 and 1997, and was named an All-NBL First Team member for a record 15 consecutive years. Gaze has been described as one of the greatest players Australia has ever produced.

Born in Cooma, New South Wales, he is a product of the Shoalhaven Tigers basketball program which has produced several NBL, WNBL, and NCAA players including his brother Ben who spent 2007–2011 attending Santa Clara University and playing for the Santa Clara Broncos.
The Shoalhaven Mariners Baseball Association, also known as the Shoalhaven Mariners is a baseball club based in the northern Shoalhaven and is one of the youngest clubs in Australian baseball. They are the youngest club participating in the Illawarra Baseball League.
Jarred Farlow is an Australian former professional rugby league footballer who played in the 2010s for the Wests Tigers in the National Rugby League. He primarily played at second-row and lock, but could also fill in at five-eighth and he previously played for the Lézignan Sangliers in the Elite One Championship. Farlow was the head coach of the Ryde-Eastwood Hawks in the Ron Massey Cup Competition which is the 2nd tier New South Wales Rugby League state based competition.

Anthony Petrie is an Australian professional basketball player who last played for the Brisbane Bullets of the National Basketball League (NBL). He attended Sir Henry Parkes Memorial Primary School and Tenterfield High School, graduating in 2000. He is married and has 3 daughters and 1 son. Two of his daughters Jess and Emma have stepped in their fathers footpath and play rep basketball as well.
Hills Hornets is a NBL1 East club based in Sydney, New South Wales. The club fields a team in both the Men's and Women's NBL1 East. The club is a division of Hills Basketball Association (HBA), the major administrative basketball organisation in the Hills District of Sydney. The Hornets play their home games at Hills Sports Stadium.
