De La Soul is an American hip hop trio formed in 1988 in the Amityville area of Long Island, New York. They are best known for their eclectic sampling, quirky lyrics, and their contributions to the evolution of the jazz rap and alternative hip hop subgenres. The members are Posdnuos, Trugoy and Maseo. The three formed the group in high school and caught the attention of producer Prince Paul with a demo tape of the song "Plug Tunin'". With its playful wordplay, innovative sampling, and witty skits, the band's debut album, 3 Feet High and Rising, has been called "a hip hop masterpiece."

AOI: Bionix is De La Soul's sixth full-length album, released in December 2001. The album was the second in a planned three-disc installment, which was originally intended to be a three-disc album. This was the last De La project released on Tommy Boy before the label became defunct.
"Touch It" is a song by Busta Rhymes. Released on December 13, 2005, it was the first single from Rhymes' Aftermath/Interscope debut, The Big Bang. The song charted well in New Zealand peaking at number one on the RIANZ Singles Chart. The song features a minimalistic beat provided by Swizz Beatz, and a sample from the song "Technologic" by electronic duo Daft Punk. The song in turn was subsequently borrowed back in their live album, Alive 2007.

"All Good?" is the second single from De La Soul's fifth album, Art Official Intelligence: Mosaic Thump, released on August 23, 2000. It was a collaboration between the group and soul legend Chaka Khan, who sings an extended hook that leads into each verse. The song was notably popular in Europe where it received numerous remix treatments.
"Baby Phat" is the only official single from De La Soul's sixth studio album, AOI: Bionix, released in late 2001. The song was produced by Dave West and featured vocals from Devin the Dude and Yummy Bingham. This single was the introduction for Yummy Bingham.
"Shopping Bags " is the first official single to be released by De La Soul, from their seventh studio album, The Grind Date. The song was a diatribe about gold-diggers, and was produced by California-based producer, Madlib. The B-side to the single, was the song "The Grind Date", produced by Supa Dave West, and featuring samples from "Nous Sommes Du Soleil" by Yes.
"Before the Great Collapse" is a single by Hip Hop duo Jedi Mind Tricks, released in 2004 through Babygrande Records. The single was the lead-off for the group's fourth album, Legacy of Blood. The song's intro contains a sample from "Freeman's Farm" by David Elon Preston, and the song's music contains a sample from "No Me Des Tu Adios" by Perla. "Before the Great Collapse" was the first JMT single to be solely performed by group vocalist Vinnie Paz, who uses the track as a suicide letter, written to his mother. The track is followed up on JMT's Servants in Heaven, Kings in Hell with the track Razorblade Salvation, in which Vinnie Paz retracts his suicide note, citing his obligations and goals as reasons to "stick around for a while."
"Da Art of Storytellin' " is the third and final single to be released from hip-hop duo OutKast's third studio album, Aquemini. It was released as a single in 1999, but failed to chart on the Billboard Hot 100, although it managed to peak at #67 on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart. Only the single version of the song features Slick Rick, with his verse completely cut from the album version. This song is not to be confused with Slick Rick's album, The Art of Storytelling, which was released on the same day. This song was sampled in J. Cole's song, "Land of the Snakes" from his album, Born Sinner.
"Don't Touch Me " is a promo single for rapper Busta Rhymes' album Back on My B.S.. It was produced by Grind Music for The Hitmen. The song samples "I Can Give You Love" by 1960s/1970s soul band The Diplomats. The official remix features Reek Da Villain, Spliff Star, Lil Wayne, Nas, The Game, and Big Daddy Kane. It was played during the opening act of the MTV Movie Awards for a dance off between Chris Brown and Mike Myers.
"Do You Believe?" is the second single from Stone Crazy, a 1997 album by East Coast hip hop group the Beatnuts. It was released by Relativity Records as a single with "Give Me Tha Ass" as its b-side in 1997. The song is produced by The Beatnuts and features raps by Juju and Psycho Les. Juju begins the song with a verse about his "ghetto mentality," while Psycho Les raps a verse about partying and making music. Juju's verse was later sampled in the song "Dos Factotum" by Louis Logic, while Psycho Les' verse was sampled in "Bottom Feeders" by Smut Peddlers. The song's mournful beat contains a samples "Fueron Tres Anos" by Chilean band Los Ángeles Negros.

It was released as his solo debut single and served as the lead single from his debut album, A Gangster and a Gentleman (2002). "Simple Murder" is a 2003 single by East Coast hip hop group The Beatnuts. Prior to its inclusion on DJ Rhettmatic's album Exclusive Collection, Up Above Records released it as a 12 inch. Its b-side is a remix produced by Key-Kool of The Visionaries. The original version of "Simple Murder" is produced by The Beatnuts and features raps by Juju and Psycho Les. The song's lyrics are both braggadocios and hedonistic as they praise money, "bitches" and drugs in three consecutive lines. The song's beat is characterized by a repetitive funk loop sampled from "It's Not What You Fall For, It's What You Stand For" by Laura Lee.
"Pump It Up" is a song by American hip hop artist Joe Budden. It was released on May 8, 2003 as lead single from his self-titled debut. It was featured in 2 Fast 2 Furious, You Got Served, as well as the trailer for the comedy Meet the Blacks. The song was also featured on Madden NFL 2004, and peaked at number thirty eight on the Billboard Hot 100 and number thirteen in the United Kingdom.
"Back Like That" is the second single by American rapper Ghostface Killah from his critically acclaimed fifth solo album Fishscale (2006). The song features R&B singer Ne-Yo and has become Ghostface's highest charting solo single on the Billboard Hot 100. It contains a sample of "Baby Come Home" as performed by Willie Hutch as well an interpolation of "Song Cry" as performed by Jay-Z. A remix featuring Kanye West & Ne-Yo was produced and later included on Ghostface's sixth album More Fish. In 2009, Ghostface performed the song with Chrisette Michele at VH1's 6th Annual Hip Hop Honors ceremony.

The single version was released as the Bad Boy Remix featuring Missy Elliott, who gained notability and mainstream attention for her unique signature, "Hee-Hee-How" punchline. Elliott's contribution managed to help the single crack the top 20 on Billboard's Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart, where it peaked at #12 and spent a total of 29 weeks. The song also appeared on the US Billboard Hot 100 chart, where it peaked at #41.
"On the Run" is the second single from American hip hop duo Kool G Rap & DJ Polo's 1992 album Live and Let Die. Released with "Straight Jacket" as a B-side, it was later also featured on the compilation albums Killer Kuts (1994) and The Best of Cold Chillin' (2000).
"Like Glue" is a song by Jamaican dancehall artist Sean Paul, from his second album Dutty Rock (2002). The song was produced by Tony "CD" Kelly, and written by Kelly and Sean Paul. Lyrics from "Like Glue" were originally the intro to "Gimme the Light" until Sean Paul expanded it and made it into a full song. Lyrically, the song refers to how Sean Paul does not care what people say and that he has to stick to his girlfriends "like glue".
