Singapore Indian Orchestra and Choir

The Singapore Indian Orchestra & Choir (SIOC) is one of the few orchestras to have a choir to complement its performances. They have staged over 350 performances and are regularly invited to perform at local concerts of festivals in Singapore, Australia and Brunei. The Orchestra was formed by the People's Association.

History

In today's modern society where modern music is highlighted, the Orchestra sets the trend for Indian classical music.

Since its inception, SIOC has been run by Mrs Lalitha Vaidyanathan. The SIOC Youth wing is run by 'Kalaichudar' Mrs Vicknesvari Vadivalagan. This group of musicians consist of music students from various art schools and organizations. Being in a performing arts group, our young talents are motivated and driven to express Indian Music on a different platform. The ensemble attempts to create better awareness about classical music showcasing musical creativity on fusion, cinema songs, semi-classical and multi racial pieces into the young minds.

Orchestra Large instrumental ensemble

The 15th Annual Grammy Awards were held on March 3, 1973, and were the first to be broadcast live on CBS, after the first two ceremonies were on ABC. CBS has been the TV home for the Grammy Awards ever since. The awards recognized accomplishments by musicians from the year 1972. The ceremony this year was held in Nashville, Tennessee; others before or since have been held in either New York City or Los Angeles.

The music of Singapore has reflected the diverse influences that have shaped the country. Its various communities have their own distinct musical traditions: the Chinese form the largest ethnic group in Singapore, with Eurasians, Malays, Indians as well as a smaller number of other peoples of different ethnicities. The different people with their traditional forms of music, the various modern musical styles, and the fusion of different forms account for the musical diversity in the country that are distinct from its neighbouring countries.

Robert Shaw (conductor) American conductor

Robert Lawson Shaw was an American conductor most famous for his work with his namesake Chorale, with the Cleveland Orchestra and Chorus, and the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra and Chorus. He was known for drawing public attention to choral music through his wide-ranging influence and mentoring of younger conductors, the high standard of his recordings, his support for racial integration in his choruses, and his support for modern music, winning many awards throughout his career.

Rehearsal

A rehearsal is an activity in the performing arts that occurs as preparation for a performance in music, theatre, dance and related arts, such as opera, musical theatre and film production. It is undertaken as a form of practising, to ensure that all details of the subsequent performance are adequately prepared and coordinated. The term "rehearsal" typically refers to ensemble activities undertaken by a group of people. For example, when a musician is preparing a piano concerto in their music studio, this is called "practicing", but when they practice the concerto with an orchestra, this is called a "rehearsal". The music rehearsal takes place in a music rehearsal space.

Lynnette Seah Mei Tsing is an internationally acclaimed Singaporean violinist serving as co-leader of the Singapore Symphony Orchestra (SSO) as the only musician to have performed full-time with the SSO since 1979 – a position she is holding on at the Symphony together with Alexander Souptel. She is also a recipient of the Cultural Medallion for Music in 2006 and has performed for Emperor Akihito and Empress Michiko of Japan.

The RTÉ Concert Orchestra is one of the two full-time professional radio orchestras in Ireland that are part of RTÉ, the national broadcasting station. Since its formation as the Radio Éireann Light Orchestra in 1948, the RTÉ Concert Orchestra, has grown from a small studio-based recording group to become an active 45-strong orchestra performing over eighty concerts annually. It is part of RTÉ Performing Groups. The orchestra performs classical, popular and big band evening and lunchtime concerts, covering a range of music from baroque to contemporary.

RTÉ Performing Groups is a group of five classical ensembles, part of the Irish broadcaster Raidió Teilifís Éireann (RTÉ). All but the Vanbrugh Quartet are based in Dublin.

The Singapore Symphony Children's Choir (SSCC) is the associated children's choir of the Singapore Symphony Chorus (SSC).

Neil Nongkynrih

Neil Nongkynrih is a concert pianist from Shillong, Meghalaya, India. He is the founder, mentor and conductor of Shillong Chamber Choir (SCC) which won the reality show India's Got Talent in 2010. He was awarded Padma Shri, the fourth highest civilian award of India in 2015.

Dr. Kanniks Kannikeswaran, popularly known as Kanniks, is an Indo-American musician, scholar, composer, writer and music educator based out of Cincinnati, OH... Often described as ‘The Magic Musician From Madras’, Kanniks has numerous productions, choral performances, lectures, workshops and articles to his name. He has founded and led community choirs in 10 cities in North America including Cincinnati OH, Bethlehem PA, Houston TX, Tampa FL, Ft. Lauderdale FL, Minneapolis/St Paul MN, Toronto ON, Washington DC, Atlanta GA and Chicago IL. He has expanded his work to Europe. He has done extensive research on the music and life of 19th century composer Muthuswami Dikshitar.
