Sound of Pop is an independent record label, music publishing and licensing company based in Nova Scotia, Canada. Sound of Pop represents many musical artists. In 2015 it has two divisions, the label Sound of Pop Records and a publishing and representation agency Sound of Pop Publishing. [1] In 2015 Sound of Pop is owned and operated by Glenn McMullen, [2] [3] and acts as the worldwide administrator for the SOP music publishing catalogue with offices in Toronto, Nashville and Los Angeles.

History

Sound of Pop was founded in 2001. [4]

In 2009 and again in 2012 and 2013, Sound of Pop was nominated as Company of the Year at the East Coast Music Awards. [5] [6] In 2010 [7] and 2011 the company was nominated as Record Label of the Year. [8] [9] [10] IN 2015 the company was named Music Merchant of the Year at the awards event. [11] [12] In 2016 Sound of Pop was nominated as music company of the year. [4] [13]

Services

Sound of Pop Records signs emerging musicians and bands. The company provides talent development services, including co-writing, recording, manufacturing, national and international distribution and international licensing. In Canada, Sound of Pop Records are distributed through Fontana North/Universal Music Canada and internationally through the Independent Digital Licensing Agency (IDLA).

Coco Love Alcorn singer

Coco Love Alcorn is a Canadian pop and jazz singer. The daughter of jazz singer John Alcorn, she released her debut album in 1995. She toured as an opening act for Burton Cummings, Chantal Kreviazuk, Jesse Cook, and Ani DiFranco and performed on some Lilith Fair dates. She is a backing vocalist for 54-40, and her music has appeared on the television programs The Dead Zone and The L Word.

Jenny Galt is a Canadian singer/songwriter best known as one of the finalists on the television show Rockstar: Supernova.

Brandon Jones is a Canadian singer/songwriter from Quispamsis, New Brunswick. He was a competitor on season 4 of Canadian Idol and was eliminated on August 1, 2006, placing him 8th.

Joel Plaskett Canadian rock musician

William Joel MacDonald Plaskett is a Canadian rock musician and songwriter based in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia. He was a member of Halifax alternative rock band Thrush Hermit in the 1990s. Plaskett performs in a number of genres, from blues and folk to hard rock, country, and pop.

The Paperboys (Canadian band) Canadian folk music band

The Paperboys are a Canadian folk music band from Vancouver that formed in 1991. The Paperboys blend Celtic folk with bluegrass, Mexican, Eastern European, African, zydeco, soul and country influences. The band has had a variety of members and line-ups since its original formation, with Landa remaining as the sole founding member, although veteran banjoist/bassist Cam Salay often returns as a guest performer. Bob Hallett Canadian musician

Robert (Bob) Hallett is a Canadian musician, author, producer, and entrepreneur, best known as a founding member of the Canadian folk rock band Great Big Sea (1993–2013). A native of St. John's, Newfoundland, Hallett co-founded Great Big Sea in 1993, with Alan Doyle, Sean McCann, and Darrell Power. The band sold over a million and half records around the world, over a twenty-year period. Through his company, Kilbride Music, Hallett has managed bands and produced records, radio specials, and live concerts. Hallet is a vocal proponent of talent development within the Newfoundland and East Coast Music Industries, and has authored a career guidebook for aspiring musicians. He works with the producers of the Broadway musical Come From Away as a Music Consultant, and has also worked at the Stratford Festival as a Composer & Music Director. As an author he has written dozens of magazine articles, essays and several books, including the best-selling memoir Writing Out The Notes. He is the owner of Erin's Pub and Tavola Restaurant in downtown St. John's. Hallett currently plays accordion and other instruments in the band Kelly Russell and the Planks; he has also been associated with The Once, The Dardanelles, Fabian James, and the Irish Descendants, in various capacities.

Mo Kenney Canadian singer-songwriter

Mo Kenney is a Canadian singer/songwriter based in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia. Catching the ear of noted Canadian rocker Joel Plaskett while still in school, Kenney released her first album in 2012, which Plaskett produced. Kenney is known for her lyrical prowess and engaging stage presence. Called "Nova Scotia's rising star" by The Scene magazine, she has toured with Plaskett as well as with Ron Sexsmith. In 2013, her song "Sucker" won the prestigious SOCAN Songwriting Prize.

Heather Elaine Rankin is a Canadian singer, songwriter and actor. She is most well known as a member of the multi-platinum selling musical group The Rankin Family.
