Historically, there have been eight teams to qualify for the tournament. However between 2014 and 2016, the tournament was reduced to 4 teams from the usual 8 teams.

The first round and quarterfinals of the tournament were held at campus sites, while the semifinals and final took place at Samford University Track & Soccer Stadium in Birmingham, Alabama. The ten-team single-elimination tournament consisted of four rounds based on seeding from regular season conference play. The Samford Bulldogs were the defending champions, but they were eliminated from the 2017 tournament with a 2–1 semifinal loss in double overtime to the UNC Greensboro Spartans. UNC Greensboro won the tournament with a 1–0 win over the Western Carolina Catamounts in the final. This was the seventh Southern Conference tournament title for the UNC Greensboro women's soccer program and the first for head coach Michael Coll.

The 2018 Conference USA Women's Soccer Tournament was the postseason women's soccer tournament for Conference USA held from October 31 through November 4, 2018. The seven-match tournament took place at Old Dominion Soccer Complex in Norfolk, Virginia. The eight-team single-elimination tournament consisted of three rounds based on seeding from regular season conference play. The defending champions were the North Texas Mean Green, who defended their title after defeating the Southern Miss Golden Eagles in the final. The conference championship was the third for the North Texas women's soccer program, all three of which have come under the direction of head coach John Hedlund.

This was the eighth Southern Conference tournament title for the UNC Greensboro women's soccer program and the second for head coach Michael Coll.

The 2019 Southern Conference Women's Soccer Tournament was the postseason women's soccer tournament for the Southern Conference held from October 30 through November 10, 2019. The first round and quarterfinals of the tournament were held at campus sites, while the semifinals and final took place at UNCG Soccer Stadium in Greensboro, North Carolina. The ten-team single-elimination tournament consisted of four rounds based on seeding from regular season conference play. The UNC Greensboro Spartans were the defending champions but were unable to defend their crown, losing 1–0 t the Furman Paladins in the semifinal. The Samford Bulldogs were the eventual champions, defeating Furman 1–0 in the final. This was the third Southern Conference tournament title for the Samford women's soccer program, all three of which have come under coach Todd Yelton.
