Peshawar is the sixth most populous city of Pakistan, with a population of over 1.97 million in 2017 census. It is situated in the north-west of the country, lying in the Valley of Peshawar. It is the capital of the province of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, where it is the largest city. Peshawar is primarily populated by Pashtuns, who comprise the second-largest ethnic group in the country. The University of Engineering and Technology, Peshawar , formerly known as NWFP University of Engineering and Technology, is a public university located in Peshawar, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan. Formerly known as NWFP University of Engineering and Technology until 2010, it an institution of higher learning in Pakistan with a strong emphasis on the development of science and engineering. The university offers undergraduate and post-graduate programs in various engineering disciplines. The university is also a member of the Association of Commonwealth Universities of the United Kingdom. The university was regarded as one of the best engineering schools in the country and was ranked in 7th position nationwide in the category of "Engineering and Technology" by HEC, the highest governing body of higher education in Pakistan. According to Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2023, the university is ranked in 801-1000th worldwide and in 251-300th position in Asia.
The Qayyum Stadium also known as Peshawar Sport Complex is located in Peshawar, the capital of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province in Pakistan. It is the biggest sports complex in Peshawar and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The sport complex has facilities for all major sports including football, field hockey, squash, wrestling and badminton. The sport complex is owned by Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. It has total capacity of 30,000 and it is located within walking distance from Peshawar Saddar and Peshawar Cantonment railway station.

St. Anthony's High School is a Catholic school for boys located in Lahore, Punjab, Pakistan. A suicide bomber struck AIG Ashraf Noor's car on 24 November 2017, as he was driving to work in Hayatabad, Peshawar, and the car caught fire, killing Ashraf Noor and his guard. In the attack eight others police in the AIG's squad were injured as a result of the blast and they were taken to Hayatabad Medical Complex for treatment.
Bagh-e-Tatara is a recreational park located in Phase 1, Hayatabad, Peshawar. Tatara Park has been developed from a garden lawn with man-made lakes, into a theme park.
On 1 December 2017, 3–4 gunmen arrived at the hostel of Agricultural Training Institute at Agricultural University Peshawar and started firing as a result of which at least 13 people were killed and 35+ were injured. Tehreek-e-Taliban claimed responsibility for the attack.
Mahmood Khan is a Pakistani politician who was the Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa from August 2018 till January 2023 and a member of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI). He had been a member of the Provincial Assembly of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa from August 2018 till January 2023, when he, as Chief Minister, dissolved the Assembly.
