The St. Regis Indians were a Senior "A" box lacrosse team from St. Regis Mohawk Reservation, New York on Akwesasne Island. The Indians played in the Major Series Lacrosse Senior "A" Lacrosse League from 1998 to 2009.

Box lacrosse, also known as boxla, box, or indoor lacrosse, is an indoor version of lacrosse played mostly in North America. The game originated in Canada in the 1930s, where it is more popular than field lacrosse and is the national summer sport. Box lacrosse is played between two teams of five players and one goalie each, and is traditionally played on an ice hockey rink once the ice has been removed or covered. The playing area is called a box, in contrast to the open playing field of field lacrosse. The object of the game is to use a lacrosse stick to catch, carry, and pass the ball in an effort to score by shooting a solid rubber lacrosse ball into the opponent's goal.

The Mohawk Nation at Akwesasne is a Mohawk Nation (Kanien'kehá:ka) territory that straddles the intersection of international borders and provincial boundaries on both banks of the St. Lawrence River. Most of the land and population are in what is otherwise the present-day United States. Although divided by an international border, the residents consider themselves to be one community. They maintain separate police forces due to jurisdictional issues and national laws.

Major Series Lacrosse (MSL) is a Senior A box lacrosse league based in Ontario, Canada sanctioned by the Ontario Lacrosse Association. Most of the star players in the league play or have played in the National Lacrosse League. Each year, the playoff teams battle for the right to compete against the Western Lacrosse Association champion for the Mann Cup every September. The championship is hosted alternately between Ontario and British Columbia every year.

History

Until 1998 the team was known as the Akwesasne Thunder. The Thunder played at the Senior B level and were 2-time Presidents Cup (box lacrosse) national champions (1995 and 1997). The Thunder won league championships four consecutive times (1994-97) before the move to Senior A.

Presidents Cup (box lacrosse) lacrosse championship

The Presidents Cup is the national Senior-level box lacrosse championship for the Canadian Lacrosse Association. The annual Championship awards a "Gold", "Silver", and "Bronze" placing. The skill levels have been adjusted in recent years; Senior "B" teams from across Canada now compete for the Presidents Cup. Senior "A" is now represented by Ontario's Major Series Lacrosse and the Western Lacrosse Association, who compete for the Mann Cup.

The Indians played in the 1999 Major Series Lacrosse championship series, losing to the Brampton Excelsiors in five games.

The Brampton Excelsiors are Senior "A" box lacrosse team from Brampton, Ontario, Canada. The Excelsiors play in the Major Series Lacrosse Senior "A" Lacrosse League.

The club folded after a story-filled 2009^[1] season.

It is a 12 team league wherein the top 8 go to the playoffs and battle it out for top spot in Ontario. The playoff Champion moves on to compete for the National Championship — the Minto Cup.

Ontario Series Lacrosse, known as the OLA Senior B Lacrosse League from 1999-2019, is a Senior box lacrosse league based out of Ontario, Canada sanctioned by the Ontario Lacrosse Association. Many of the players in the league play or have played in the National Lacrosse League. OSBLL winners earn a chance at the national championship—the Presidents Cup.

The Akwesasne Indians are Junior "B" box lacrosse team from Akwesasne. The Indians compete in the OLA Junior B Lacrosse League.

The Six Nations Rebels are a Canadian Junior "B" box lacrosse team from Hagersville, Ontario on the Six Nations of the Grand River Reserve. The Rebels play in the OLA Junior B Lacrosse League. The Rebels hold the record for most Junior B national championships in Founders Cup history with seven.

Mark Steenhuis is a Canadian professional lacrosse player who plays for the Buffalo Bandits in the National Lacrosse League (NLL) and formerly of the Hamilton Nationals of Major League Lacrosse (MLL).

Rob Van Beek is a professional indoor lacrosse player. He attended St. Vincent College. He is from Port Coquitlam, British Columbia.

Athan Iannucci is a professional lacrosse player. He played collegiate lacrosse at Hofstra University. Iannucci plays professional lacrosse for the Colorado Mammoth of the National Lacrosse League. He was a member of the now defunct St. Regis Indians of the Ontario Lacrosse Association's Senior-A Major Series Lacrosse. He plays in the summer months for the WLA Langley Thunder.

The Langley Thunder are a Senior A box lacrosse team, based in Langley, British Columbia, Canada. The team competes in the 7-team Western Lacrosse Association (WLA), playing their home games at the 5,276 capacity Langley Events Centre. The LEC is also home to the Vancouver Stealth of the NLL.

The Can-Am Senior B Lacrosse League is a Senior-level Canadian and American box lacrosse league. The teams are located in the Southwestern Ontario and Upstate New York regions. Patrick Crosby is an indoor lacrosse goaltender from Philadelphia, PA. Crosby played collegiate ice hockey for Temple University of the American Collegiate Hockey Association from 2003-2006. Crosby has played multiple seasons in the Three Nations Senior Lacrosse League, Quebec Senior Lacrosse League, Can-Am Senior B Lacrosse League as well as with the U.S. Indoor Lacrosse National Developmental Team (2009–2011). Most recently Crosby was selected to represent Slovakia at the 2011 FIL World Indoor Lacrosse Championship in Prague, CZ. Crosby currently plays professionally for the Kentucky Stickhorses of the NALL where he was previously selected as the 3rd overall pick in the 2011 Entry Draft. The Three Nations Senior Lacrosse League (TNSLL) is a Senior B box lacrosse league based out of Ontario, Quebec and New York, sanctioned by the First Nations Lacrosse Association (FNLA). The Nova Scotia Senior Lacrosse League(NSSLL) is a Senior B box lacrosse league based in Nova Scotia. NSSLL is sanctioned by Lacrosse Nova Scotia.

The Six Nations Rivermen are a Senior box lacrosse team. The team played in the City of Ohsweken, Ontario, Canada and participate in the OLA Senior B Lacrosse League. They are the defending 2015 Presidents Cup National Champions and two-time defending Ontario Lacrosse Association Senior B Champions.
