St Catherine's Ladies Football Club is an Irish association football club originally based in St Catherine's Parish in the Liberties, Dublin. The club also plays home games in Walkinstown. St Catherine's have been FAI Women's Cup finalists on three occasions, winning the competition in 2011.
St Catherine's was founded in 1980. Among the founder members was Brother Bernard Twomey, a member of the Order of Saint Augustine attached to St Catherine's Church. [3] Brother Bernard later served the club as team manager. In 2001 St Catherine's played in their first FAI Women's Cup but lost to Shamrock Rovers. In the 2009 FAI Women's Cup, St Catherine's recorded victories over Galway, Lifford Ladies and the Cork Women's & Schoolgirls Soccer League before meeting St Francis in the final at Richmond Park. Katie Taylor was a member of the St Catherine's team this season but her boxing commitments sometimes restricted her appearances and she would miss the 2009 final. [4] [5] [6] [7] With a team that included Caroline Thorpe, St Catherine's lost 1–0 to a St Francis team that included Megan Campbell, Grainne Kierans and Mary Waldron. [8] [9]
The 2011 FAI Women's Cup saw St Catherine's knockout both the Cork Women's & Schoolgirls Soccer League and Raheny United before defeating Kilmacrennan Celtic 7–0 in the semi-final. In the final played at Turners Cross they faced Wilton United. St Catherine's claimed the cup with a dramatic 3–1 victory. Mary Waldron, now playing for St Catherine's, scored the opening goal in the 43rd minute before Noelle Murray doubled the score in the 77th minute with an astonishing volley. However, Wilton hit back in the closing moments of the game through Denise O'Sullivan but their late comeback was short lived as Murray ended the contest with another impressive strike in the 89th minute. At the 2011–12 Women's National League Awards ceremony, Brother Bernard Twomey received the Services to Football Award. In addition to guiding St Catherine's to three FAI Women's Cup finals, Brother Bernard was recognised for dedicating his life to giving children the opportunity to play football at any level and for the important role he has played in the development of women's association football in the Republic of Ireland. The FAI Intermediate Cup, also known as the FAI Umbro Intermediate Cup and the Pat O'Brien Intermediate Challenge Cup, is a cup competition organized by the Football Association of Ireland for intermediate association football clubs from the Republic of Ireland. These include clubs competing in the Leinster Senior League, the Munster Senior League and the Ulster Senior League. It was originally known as the FAI Qualifying Cup and from the beginning it has been used as a qualifying competition for the senior FAI Cup. It is currently sponsored by Umbro and has previously been sponsored by Carlsberg.
The FAI Youth Cup, also known as the FAI Umbro Youth Challenge Cup, is a cup competition organised by the FAI for youth association football clubs and teams in the Republic of Ireland. The inaugural winners were Greenmount Rangers. The competition's most successful club has been Home Farm who have won the cup eleven times. They have also been finalists on a further seven occasions. In 1964–65 a Home Farm A team, featuring Terry Conroy and Billy Newman, played a Home Farm B team in the final at Tolka Park. The cup is currently sponsored by Umbro.

Dora Gorman is a Republic of Ireland women's international footballer. In 2010, she was captain of the Republic of Ireland U-17 squad that were runners-up in the 2010 UEFA Women's Under-17 Championship and quarter-finalists in the 2010 FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup. Their senior women's team currently plays in the Women's National League. They have also fielded teams in the Dublin Women's Soccer League, the Metropolitan Girls League and the North Dublin Schoolboys/Girls League.
Sylvia Gee is a former Republic of Ireland women's international footballer who has spent the majority of her career playing in various women's association football leagues in the Republic of Ireland and the United States. Between 2003 and 2007, Gee was a prominent member and captain of the successful UCD team which qualified for the UEFA Women's Cup on three successive occasions.
Raheny United Football Club is an Irish association football club based in Raheny, Dublin. Raheny United was founded in 1994 following the amalgamation of Raheny Boys and Dunseedy United. In 2017–18 their senior men's team compete in the Premier A division of the Athletic Union League. An over–35s team compete in the Amateur Football League. They also have 35 schoolboy teams competing in both the Dublin & District Schoolboy League and the North Dublin Schoolboys/Girls League.
The Dublin Women's Soccer League was a women's association football league featuring teams from the Republic of Ireland. While the majority of the participating clubs were based in the Greater Dublin Area, the DWSL had regularly included teams from outside this area. Whilst previously the DWSL was one of the largest women's leagues in Ireland it had been overtaking by the Wexford, MGL and Cork Leagues. In late 2019, the FAI following discussions revamped Women's Football in the Greater Dublin area and the Eastern Women's Football League (EWFL) chaired by the MGL's Tony Gains were granted the only license to run Women's adult football in the Dublin area. The EWFL is ran by committees of the MGL and the Former DWSL
Shamrock Rovers Ladies Football Club is an Irish association football club based in Dublin. It is the women's section of Shamrock Rovers F.C.. During the late 1990s and early 2000s, Shamrock Rovers Ladies were one of the most successful teams in women's association football in the Republic of Ireland, winning both the Dublin Women's Soccer League and the FAI Women's Cup five times in a row. In 2002–03 Rovers became the first women's team to represent the Republic of Ireland in Europe and in 2011–12 they were founder members of the Women's National League.
The 2014–15 Women's National League was the fourth season of the Women's National League. On 20 August 2014, at the Aviva Stadium, Continental Tyres were unveiled as the new sponsor of both the Women's National League and FAI Women's Cup. Before the season started there were two name changes following takeovers and/or mergers. Cork Women's F.C. were taken over by FORAS/Cork City F.C. and as a result were renamed Cork City W.F.C. It was also announced that DLR Waves and UCD's senior women's team would join forces and become known as UCD Waves. Shamrock Rovers withdrew from the league, leaving seven teams to play each other.
Karen Duggan is a former Republic of Ireland women's international footballer who currently plays for Peamount United. She has previously played for UCD Waves. Between 2013 and 2016 Duggan was selected for the Women's National League Team of the Season for four successive seasons. She was the only player selected all four seasons. In 2015–16 she was also WNL Senior Player of the Season. Duggan has also played camogie at club, university and county level.
St Francis Ladies Football Club is an Irish association football club based in Baldonnel, Dublin. It is the women's section of St Francis F.C.. They have entered teams in both the FAI Women's Cup and the Dublin Women's Soccer League. They also represented the Republic of Ireland in the 2009–10 and 2010–11 UEFA Women's Champions Leagues.
Eileen Gleeson is an Irish association football coach and former player, who was appointed as the assistant manager of the Republic of Ireland women's national football team in September 2019. She was formerly the manager of UCD Waves. She also previously managed Peamount United, who she guided to the last 32 of the 2011–12 UEFA Women's Champions League.
Noelle Murray is an Irish professional footballer who plays as a forward for Irish club Shelbourne Ladies and the Republic of Ireland national team. Between 2011 and 2016 Murray played in six successive FAI Women's Cup finals with three clubs - St Catherine's, Raheny United and Shelbourne Ladies.
Hannah Tyrrell is an Ireland women's rugby union international. Tyrrell represented Ireland at the 2017 Women's Rugby World Cup. She was also a member of the Ireland team that won the 2015 Women's Six Nations Championship. Tyrrell is also an Ireland women's rugby sevens international. She has also played two other football codes at a senior level. As a women's association football player, Tyrrell played for St Catherine's in two FAI Women's Cup finals and played for Shamrock Rovers in the Women's National League. She also played senior Ladies' Gaelic football for Dublin in the Ladies' National Football League.
Limerick Women's Football Club is an Irish association football club based in Limerick. It is the women's section of Limerick F.C.. Their senior women's team made their debut in the Women's National League in 2018. However the club has been organising women's teams, often in conjunction with the Limerick Women's & Schoolgirls' Soccer League, since at least 1973. Limerick have been credited as the inaugural winners of both the Ladies League of Ireland and the FAI Women's Cup.
Sarah Rowe is a Republic of Ireland women's association football international. In addition to association football, Rowe has also played two other football codes at a senior level. She has played Ladies' Gaelic football for Mayo and women's Australian rules football for Collingwood in the AFLW. At club level, Rowe has played association football for Castlebar Celtic, Raheny United and Shelbourne Ladies in the Women's National League. Rowe was a member of the Republic of Ireland U19 team that won their group at the 2014 UEFA Women's Under-19 Championship and qualified for the semi-finals. In 2016 she was also a member of the Shelbourne Ladies team that won a Women's National League/FAI Women's Cup double.
